she wants another toy

Oh my God! I thought my kittens were the only ones who ever put toys in the water!! I have had cats my whole life and none of the others have ever done that. Rocky especially likes to put his shoelace, which he carries all around the house, in the water. Almost every morning it is back in the water. I have watched him and it seems like he just likes watching it splash and make the water move. I have 2 water bowls right next to each other, 1 is used by both dogs and all 4 cats, the other is used just by the cats (I don't know why). Rocky puts his toys mostly in the cat water bowl. Rocky (9 months) and Carson (almost 2 years) both also but crinkly balls and small stuffed toys in the water. I used to think the toys just bounced or were accidently dropped in, but now I am convinced they purposely put the toys in. At least with Rocky, I'm pretty sure he is just playing with the water when he does it... he also likes to walk in the water bowl when it is empty.

Cats do that for one of two reasons. Either they see the toy as food and so store it where "food goes," or, she may like playing with it better when it smells like something she likes to eat.

Little tip for kitty: If you put her toy in a bag of catnip and seal it, the toy will take on the smell of the catnip and she will go nuts and love playing with it. When she stops playing with it, take it off the floor and put it back in the bag, then give it to her again later for an all new, fresh catnip frolic.

Good luck from one cat lover to another.

She might see her food bowl as a place of possesion. *Her* food is there so perhaps *her* toy should go there as well in *her* food dish.

So that when she chews on it, she's getting a small taste of her pet food.

Maybe that's the cat's way of "Marking the Spot"

Marinading?
Sounds like a cute, but messy, quirk.
