my cat has this problem sometimes. if your cat is a male, it is probably blocked due to crystal formation. Is your cat making frequent trips to the litter box? watch when he goes to see if he is only peeing a few drops. even if only a tiny bit comes out- he is not blocked, but you will have to take him to the vet ASAP anyway. The crystals irritate the bladder, create more crystals, and sometimes they have trouble peeing because of swelling down there. your kitty will go on antibiotics. hopefully it is only this. If your cat is blocked, it won't urinate at all. feel his belly- is it swollen? if it feels like he has a full bladder, take him to the nearest emergency clinic- it is an easy procedure and it is done all the time. It could happen again in the future though. My cat has no problems now- change your cat's diet to half canned and half dry food. This will dilute the urine. add a lot of water to the canned food to make a gravy, then add some dry for healthy teeth. I give this to my cat and he pees like a champ now. Especially in the winter, it is extremely important for cats to get lots of water. they just don't get enough from simply drinking it from a bowl.

You need to take him to the vet ASAP because as others have stated, it could be very serious. Male cats can have urinary infections and crystals that block their ureathra. The vet needs to check him out and perhaps give him fluids or meds, or if he is blocked they need to get the urine out of him.

My male cat had these symptoms a few months ago and the vet gave him the proper medication and it cleared up in a few days. They also told me it is very important to get my cat to drink as much water as possible, because low water intake can also cause the crystals to form and a high PH in his urine. They suggested switching to an all-wet food diet and adding extra water to his cat food and that has worked very well. Cats do not really drink a lot of water on their own so that is a good way to trick them into it. Good luck!!

He must go immediately to the emergency vet. A cat will die from renal poisoning within 48 hours if he cannot urinate!

The longer you wait the more likely the cat will die before you can get him there!

his urinary tract is blocked more than likely with crystals you have to get him to a vet immediately so that he can be relieved or his urine will back up into his blood system and the impurities will kill him...please get him to a vet hospital emergency clinic or whatever you can do NOW!!!
