Cats - December 2006

[Selected]: All categories Pets Cats

I have 2 cats that I adopted at different times using Craigslist pet category. The first cat came with an uncovered litterbox and did not make a mess when using it, beside the occasional pieces of litter from her feet. The second cat ( actually kitten ) came with a large covered litterbox (with swing door ). Over a few days, I got them to be good friends and share food/water/sleeping space/etc.
The second cat started using the first cats litter and made a mess as she kicks the litter way up in the air. So I removed the uncovered litter and taught them to share the covered litter.
However, the first cat will not enter the covered litter, I have to take the top off, which defeats the purpose. Any ideas on how to get her to use the litter while the top is on? Otherwise I will be vacumming up a pound of litter a day from the second cats littler throwing Olympic event.

Thanks!

I have a four month old siamese kitten, and every site I go to doesn't seem to give me to much information on characteristics, or definitive descriptions on point differences (I don't know if my cat is a seal or chocolate point siamese). Any suggestions on which web sites, or books that would be available?

First of all, she has been fixed, so its not that.

She is howling inconsolably, we have tried all the usual solutions. Since we adopted her five years ago, she has always become distressed if her food bowl wasn't completely filled to the brim, we've tried that. We've tried scratching her head when she eats, but to no avail. She's oddly enough howling in the bathroom, which usually, our other cat usually does when she wants fresh flowing water from the sink to drink. She doesn't usually spend time in the bathroom. We've tried making sure that there wasn't a spider or bug (instead of hunting them like most cats, she stands in the area where they are and howls for mommy and daddy to come take care of it).

She doesn't appear to be in ill health. The only health problems that she has had have involved her teeth. I guess I am wondering if she could be sick? She doesn't seem unhealthy, but I know that cats don't usually show that they are sick until they are very sick.

Please provide detailed instructions. My neighbors cat is in the torture chamber and I need to do it right. She's been a BAD kitty and missed the litter box. She invented her own in the closet.

And, no, this is not for real so don't call the Internet police. I'm just drunk with eggnog...

But really, I'm curious so if there are any taxidermists out there, I'd like to know. I was thinking about having my dog stuffed some day but I think I'll just have her cloned. Or maybe I'll bury her in the pet cemetary and she can come back to life.

My bf and i just moved in with his brother who is allergic to his cat. My bf's brother just got a product called allerpet/c that you are supposed to put on the cat to reduce her dander and decrease the allergy to the cat. Just wondering if anyone has tried this and if it worked...but more importantly is it safe for my cat. Im concerned because I have seen cats get very sick from over the counter products such as flea and tick repellants. I dont want my cat to get sick.

she has always used the litter box, and after she pee'd on me and I was taking the bedding down stairs to wash, I noticed her in the litter box scratching, sitting, scratching again, but upon investigating, she did not do anything. She has always been good. She did have salmon for a treat the night before.

i am thinking about changing my cat's diet from dry+wet food to totally canned food. i am currently feeding her kitten canned food, by wiskas. it seems preetty good, my kitten loves it like mad! it also has chunks of fish init, and the rest is just mushy red blended stuff and it also has some sort of chunks of white jellyton. no idea what that is! so, what sort of wet canned food do you recomend? that is not so costly, and also very good for my kitten?

My fiancee and I have recently moved in together and my fiancee's cat sleeps on her chest at night. This wasn't a big deal when we didn't live together and was kind of cute when we were first a couple. It has really started to grow on me, though as I feel left out and I'm actually jealous of the cat! I feel like a fool, but in just 3 weeks there have already been a number of instances where I have found myself wanting to cuddle with my fiancee, who wouldn't move because the cat was sleeping on her.

What am I to do?? The cat sleeping on the bed is one thing...but I feel like I'm missing out on the love of my fiancee because she gives it to the cat instead. She doesn't want the cat to jump off her chest so she won't move when it's on top of her. And the cat is right in the way of me putting my arm around my fiancee or kissing her cheek. Am I being unreasonable or has anyone else gone through this?

I have been begging my parents for 2 years for a cat, and just yesterday they took me to petsmart. I picked a one year old cat (female) and she is the most adorable! I have no idea what to name her! She is very VERY loving, and last night she slept with me and she wouldn't stop purring, she loves to play with me with a gel pen I have that has a furry end, I move it around and she tries to catch it.

She is completley white with a grey patch on her stomach, tail and her left ear. This isn't her, but it's a pretty close match. She isn't persian or siamese by the way.. here's the pics:

The only difference is the gray areas aren't striped.
The names I like for her are the following, but I really have no idea!!!

-Alice
-Coco
-Miss. Paris
-Tinkerbell
-Trouble (a teacher nicknamed me that, lol. In a good way though hehe)
