Get him a companion cat to deal with. Our first cat calmed down a lot when we took in a second stray.

Sounds like he's just a very active "teenage" cat..lol. Maybe try to divert his "clawing" to something that is his to claw, even if it's just an old rug. Does he have plenty of toys? And you can be very creative (a spool on a string, an empty paper bag, a box, etc..) He might just be a high energy cat that needs ways to "burn that energy" I've had several cats and currently have three in the house. They're all different and require different amounts and types of attention. They do tend to calm down a bit with age.
It helps if you establish yourself as "the dominant cat". Let him know when he's misbehaving. It takes patience and time. NO ABUSE! Any cat owner knows that the cat will try to rule the house. When he sees you as the dominant cat, you'll have his respect, love, and loyalty.
Good luck!

Hi Master, I have the same problem with my dog. He is doing things alot like your cat. I thought after having him neutered he would calm down. That didn't take place. He's just an active dog,and he thinks he is the boss all the time.I too have try everything. I still have him,and trying to deal with is activeness. The best thing you can do,is deal with it,or give him to a good home.Five a clock in the morning is just to early to be woke up.Good Luck. A Friend. Merry Christmas.

give him time they eventually calm down, my kittens are about a year and a half old and they are still crazy and they were neutered at 6 months.

umm ... let it sleep a lot - when my dog got nudered {i think its the same thing as neutered} we let him sleep a lot. also, if it has a cone around its head, take it off for like 30 minutes each day. this helps because they don't feel so caged in.

Getting another cat could be your answer! That way he will have someone his size to play with. He is still young and just wants to play.
