I am thinking Persian kittens. What's your opinion? Thank you in advance.

I can only tell you to steer clear of a Siamese. They are generally not good with children, especially very small ones. They generally take up with one person and one only and tend to be very snobby toward anyone else. Himalayans and Persians are nice, though. But they do shed badly.

Your best bet might really be to go to a shelter and adopt an adult cat. The reason I say an adult rather than a kitten is because their personality is easier to determine. They will let you hold it and play with it, you can take the kids along to see how the cat responds. The shelter worker can also give you a good idea about the cat's personality as they interact with the animals on a regular basis and sometimes know the animal's history. They are also current on their shots and "fixed" already so you don't have to immediately worry about vet bills. And these animals deserve good homes, generally the adoption fee is not near as much as buying a pure-bred cat. I also have a Coon he's 13 years old and weighs about 23 pounds. (Yes, he's HUGE!!) He's very loveable and calm. Of course, he is fixed and was a bit rambunctious before his...umm...procedure. He lets my 4 year old son use him for a pillow. Good luck to you!!

Hi:

I've read that ragdoll cats are very nice and they basically get their name because when you pet them, they drape on your lap. I also think that I've heard Korats may be very sweet cats. Abyssians might be the most 'doggy' type of cats, and I think they may like to swim.

I've only had mixed breeds of cats, but right now I have one of the sweetest cats I've ever known. She is a calico, and about the only problem she has is that she is really timid, but otherwise, she is never cranky at all, and will always start purring whenever I choose to pet her. She would be an excellent cat to visit a nursing home, except that she is so timid.

I hope this helps and gives you a little bit of help. Good luck in finding a sweet and friendly cat or two!

I have Manx cats and one is very good with everyone and one is not, so I don't think you can rely on breed alone.

I have a mixed breed rescue kitten and she is wonderful. She loves everyone and cuddles and plays a little. She isn't as high maintance as the Manx were. It can take two years for Manx to get over their kitten-ness, and you need to play with them every day, but she was pretty much over hers by 7 months. We also got her spayed at 12 weeks and she got over it faster than an older cat would, so whatever you choose get them fixed as soon as possible.

It depends on what you are looking for. A cat who stays kitten-like longer or one that matures faster.

But, there are so many mixed breeds out there that need homes that I would say go with a mixed breed.

I think the best breed of house cats to have as pets for both children and the elderly are animals who, through no fault of their own, end up in an animal shelter and are about to be euthanised.

if from what i have heard is true, there are several, maine coons, ragdolls(so named because they go limp when you carry them, like a ragdoll) or a persian. please be sure that if you get a persian that the little face is not too squiahed in. this can lead to breathing problems as well as grooming hassles. but before you decide on a purebred, check out your local shelter. there are many loving cats/kittens there that need a caring owner like yourself. many are mixed breeds so you get the qualities of many rolled into one furry lovable face

Persians are a good breed but their furs are really long, mat easily and require constant maintenance.
I would suggest a similar breed, the Rag doll. They have beautiful semi-long hair that somehow does not mat. The Rag doll is also really out-going and one of the friendliest breeds of cats. They would be perfect for children and elderly.

Fleas Ahh How I hate thee... We dealt with our own flea issues.. ultimately I had to apply flea powder everywhere there replaced into heavy infestation which replaced into exceptionally lots the finished domicile. That secure under the beds and couches. Then I used an indoor insectiside that killed fleas around all the backside boards and under the mattress and couches. Then we had to apply an exterior insecticide for the backyard. We spray the doorways the finished backyard and exceptionally lots the finished domicile. whilst this replaced into occurring my pets the place locked in the bathing room. Then I washed all the linen and tossed out any puppy blankets or beds. ultimately inspite of each and every thing of that we've been Flea unfastened. Or we've been till this summer time so whilst your busy doing away with your fleas enable it heat your cockles that I too would be doing an analogous right here. under is advice from domicile Depot on the Flea and the thank you to do away with them. They point out Foggers.. i did no longer use that with the aid of fact i could have had to wipe down each and every thing after ward with the aid of fact I even have youngsters.

i worked at a humane society and to be honest, a lot of siamese and persian's have attitudes and aloofness that wouldn't make them a suitable house pet for children. petfinder.com has a lot of resources on finding the right fit for your family, we use to refer people there all the time. sometimes its best not to focus too much on breed, but rather to go and view a variety of kitties because personalities and temperments differ so widely. Good luck on your search and congrats on deciding to add a new family member!!

I think shelter cats are the best. :)

But....if you have your heart set on a pure breed; Rag Doll cats are amazing. They are gentle and loving animals as well as gorgeous. Their fur is soft like a Persian, but their personalities are just so gentle. The people I know who have them say they are loyal like a dog but still have personality.

Persians aren't the healthiest cats, they tend to have respiratory problems due to their flatter faces.

utuseclocal483, you've owned them for 10 years and you don't know that they are MAINE COONS, not mancoons?

Maine coons are very good cats, at least mine is, but they are very large, and most require large amounts of time spent grooming.

I'd recommend the ever popular American Shorthair for anyone.
