Cats - December 2006

[Selected]: All categories Pets Cats

I got two new gorgeous kittens about a week ago. They act exactly like my old cats, except instead of them being a boy and a girl, they're 2 girls.
I used to have 2 cats, I loved them to bits and was distraught when they both died. That was about 3 years ago. Im still actually getting over the loss of them because they were so special to me. They had been with me for my whole life.

Now, ive got 2 new kittens, and I feel like im replacing my old cats somehow. I feel like im betraying my previous pets by getting the new ones.

And im finding it hard to love my gorgeous little kittens. They're very well behaved and dont scratch unless you provoke them.

What do I do to get over the loss of my old cats so I can love my new cats?

I really didn't explain myself 2 good in that last question.Let me tell U my mom is a softy when we get new animals and they are in the house and she sees them. All we have to really do is bring in the kitten and she would say yes but that would be mean.Any other time when we dont have the animal she would say no.But I want a kitten and my dad doesn't care he just says ask your mom and she says no.So is there any way I can convince to to letting me get a kitten and if so please let me know!!Thanx!!

Like they say Torties are high maintence. Orange cats are hyperactive, etc. Also, stuff like most orange cats are boys and calico's are always girls. And the thing about white cats with blue eyes being deaf and blind (I know thats not always true, I've worked with many white cats)

Where do these sayings or rules come from? How often does it hold true? Websites would be helpful! Thanks!

My male cat constantly pees on my beanbag chair. Everyday without fail, I walk into my apartment and find the chair filled with cat pee. I make sure his litter is cleaned everyday and have tried different measurements of punishment from light smacks on his behind, sticking his face in it, and even sticking his face in it then setting him under the sink faucet. I feel horrible when I carry out any of these punishments, but I don't know how else to deter him and these methods aren't helping. He's a 2 year old Maincoon who's been fixed. He shares the apartment with a sister from the same litter. Besides the beanbag chair, he pees nowhere else except for his litter box. He has, however, been territorial in the past including peeing on me and my bed when I have guests spend the night. Any ideas?

Lately, my 5-year-old cat has been waking me up in the middle of the night. This is nothing new--he is a spoiled boy and knows he will get attention, but lately it seems all he wants is for someone to keep him company when he eats. After he's done, he goes back to sleep. I'm thinking of bringing his food dish into the bedroom at night so he dosn't have to eat alone while I'm asleep.

Does anyone have a cat this big? How do you get a cat to get this big? Do big ones like this play like a regular size cat?

We put her in a box that has towels in it for cushion. She stands up and acts like she wants to get out, but we are making her stay in. She is now panting hard and is shaking. She keeps licking (cleaning) herself too.

well last mon. (dec 25) he was acting like his usual self, and he was robust, but the next day,he suddenly didnt wanna eat..he walks very slowly and meows as if in hes pain.and he constantly tries to eliminate even if nothing comes out, this is the 2nd time ive noticed him doing that the 1st one was last month..i really wanted to save him coz as per my research that syptom is indicative of a severe urinary infection or blockage and it said that it needs to be treated ASAP! my dad wont take him coz to the vet coz its expensive and he doesent like cats, only dogs so he doesent wanna waste money coz he said that it will eventually die anyway even if we take him to the vet , just like our other dogs, and he told me that, "that's life"..heck what if its still curable?this is only the 1st day..and hes only 2 yrs old..if i didnt blow all of my money i would take him to the vet myself..so should i just hope for the best or convince my dad until he gives in?? is there a public hospital for animals?

We have a 9 year old female cat who is the princess of the house. When my boyfriend and i moved in he also had a female cat and they just didnt get along.. our friend adopted our younger female cat. We are wondering if our older cat will accept a male kitten. The vet said females and males get along better... Has anyone had the same experience?

The vet said it is similar to IBS. Why is nothing working for him though? We tried steroids and all kinds of special diet foods. Please help, my poor kitty hasn't pottied normal in over 5 years (if ever).

My kitty is a little over a year old. We got her when she was only a few days old because her mommy abandoned her. I read that kittens who are weaned too soon or don't have a cat mother may get the problem of sucking and drooling on clothes and blankets and such. Does anyone know of any ways to discourage this behavior?
