Mine do that when they have to pee or do #2 and they want to do it outside. Leave some dry food out at all times so they don't get hungry.

If you live with your other half then all the cats want is a little attention. Now the easiest thing to do is to leave the door open. Now another option is to get small dog doors installed on your door. They might just want to sleep on your bed or at least near you. Cats dont work on a people schedule. My cat usually does this but i put a window between my room and my hall way. My cats usually sit there during the day and can go in and out without me noticing. Thats the way i have it setup but having a lightweight small dog door will do the trick.

Why is it that so many of the people replying to this post keep mentioning cats, babies and jealousies. I believe it's because they lack reading comprehension skills. For example, many ignore the following: 1) the cat was doing this before baby arrived 2) cat gets plenty of attention and affection during the day. I don't have an answer for the original poster's problem, but I am AMAZED that so many are so quick to answer because in their own minds they've made assumptions that are simply not true. Please READ and retain the message instead of replying with useless nonsense!

Cats are generally nocturnal, but their sleeping habits can be changed if they are kept more active during the day. When you get up in the morning, play with them for a short time, if you can. When you get home, keep them awake as much as you can, playing with them or cuddling. They'll start needing more sleep at night, and be less likely to be awake to cry for attention (plus they'll get the attention they are craving). Hope this helps a little.

How many times do you feed them? If they get more than one feeding per day, maybe you need to make the last feeding of the day a little later. My cat did this when she wanted to be fed. I was originally feeding her at about 7:15 a.m. and at 5:00 p.m. Then, my husband, who wanted the cat to like him more, took over the morning feedings. He usually feeds her around 9:30 a.m. So, after a while of her driving us nuts to be fed in the mornings, I started to think about it. She has a much longer wait after the evening feeding than she does the morning one. So, I moved the evening feeding back to about 9:00p.m. Now, there's about 12 hours between meals and she's letting us sleep in.

My cat has a bedroom on the opposite end of the house from my bedroom. At night I tell her it's time to go night-night and she runs to her room. I shut the door, that's it. (her food, water, and litter box are in her room) Next morning when I get up and open her door, we are happy to see each other as we both had a good night's sleep - no interruptions from each other.

Leave out some extra food and water, and buy a few toys. If that dosxen't work, leave your bedroom door open a bit so they can come in. My cat does this, and she just wants to cuddle or lay by my feet.

HA HA HA HA ,It's funny that you mentioned that!
Mine do the SAME THING!
What I do since they do it EVER SINGLE DAY is I keep a water bottle squirter in my window seal ,and I lift up the window a little bit and SPRAY them with the water.
It pisses me off too b/c once they do it I can't get back to sleep AT all!
lol.
Hope you have a great NEW YEAR!

let them in...they probably just want to curl up with you. well, at least thats the case for my cat. she gets lonely by herself and letting her in the room calms her down. if that dosent work, and they dont want to go in, make sure they have plenty of food or water out before you go to bed, that way they have enough during the night and they wont have to bother you at 6am for more! if they are outdoor cats they may want to go to the bathroom, maybe a catflap would fix the problem?

Two words: squirt gun. If you don't want your cat to be the boss, then you have to train it to respect your sleepy time. My cat used to wake us up early, because she wanted to be fed. I do not recommend leaving food out all the time, however, because this is how cats get obese. A squirt gun, however, works like a charm. Get up. Open the door. Squirt-squirt. They do not like it, and soon associate meowing at your door with getting wet. No one gets hurt. You have to get up a lot for a few days... but soon you'll be sleeping like a baby. Worked for us! (Don't worry folks, she gets fed as soon as we get up!)
