do they rely on their vision for locating food?

I've lost my fav pet bird. it's a sunconure baby bird which has just learned how to speak 'hello & rub head'. it flew out fr the pet carrier's box when my dad forgot to locked the top latch while bringing it to a vet to have its flight feathers trimmed.
i've searched n posted flyers around my neighbourhood.
1 man replied saying that a colourful bird like mine has flown into his home, and he has given it to a bird shop near to upp.serangoon rd. he accompanied me there. but the shoplady was so rude!
the moment she saw the man & me, she started to raise her voice & scolded us. saying that he was a stupid man. it was just a pigeon, so she let it go.
Curious, on the next following day, i went to the shop again with my friend, again she scolded me, this time she said that it was a meaningless small sparrow. not a sunconure.
i was so sad and helpless. i just need an honest truth fr her. i still hope that i might find my lost pet, even though it's impossible.
=O(

I originally had one parakeet for 7 years, I feel bad because I do not give him enough attention as I used to so I bought a new young parakeet. I have seperate cages for them. When they are in seperate cages they look like they try very hard to get to one another. When I let them out of the cage, the older parakeet always flies away from the new one. When they are not chasing each other they are sitting in opposite ends of the cage for hours.

I've been a member of pigeons.com(now renamed pigeon-life) for over a year. So far I've read about several people on the site who have found young orphaned pigeons or eggs. I've been wanting to hand raise one for a while, and it'll probably be awhile before I can get one from a friend of mine in L.A . so...what are the chances of this happening to me?

(no jokes allowed!)

I've doen some researh online ,so I DO have a rough idea of what I'm up for.

Hi i'm llooking for a cockatiel rescue. We took a hand feed out of a home because he was just in a cage by himself all day. We'd like to find a better home for him with other birds and someone who would play with him and let him out more. How do bird lovers deal with the fact that you can't house break a bird?

He is sitting on the bottom of the cage and when we tried to see what happend he flew badly up the the top of the cage and we saw that it had a twisted toe. My dad cut it's nails and we put its food to the bottom and and cleaned the bottom so he is sitting there and the vets can't take him we checked. What are we to do?

I'm not clear on the way people feed them this. Do you feed this to them every other day, or just occasionally, and as a treat? And, do you give them an entire spray at a time, and leave it in the cage, or do you cut 2 inches for them at a time?

I have a cage with a removable base. I love the design and I think it's a good cage. One thing that I'm not sure of is that it has a removable base instead of a slide out tray. It removes very easily, BUT- does that seem like a pain to do every day? I'm a first time bird owner so I'm not sure. Because you remove the cage from the base, there is no bottom, and you need to lift the cage and put it elsewhere..is that annoying for the bird as well as myself? A slide out tray seems so much quicker and easier. That's the only thing making me debate my purchase. Is that enough of a reason to return the cage? Or is it no big deal? I know that ultimately it's my choice, so if you answer, please just tell me YOUR opinion. Thanks.

We have had 2 male zebra finches together for approx. 10 years, one of them recently died, and we are considering getting a female. I was wondering if this is wise, Would they get along? I was also wondering if there are any good detailed web sites about zebra finches.

Female Bourke parakeet just under 2 years old. Lone hand-tamed bird no mate but tries to play mommy anyways. She's on the skinny side due to egg production. (can feel the keel of her sternum.) But I offer her as much food as she'll eat.

She is currently incubating (nonfertile) eggs on the bottom of the cage. Yes I'm aware that incubating females have unusually infrequent and larger bowel movements - it's not the quantity that's worrying me, it's the color. Pale feces is often a sign of poor digestion.

In the cage: dish of seed mix. dish of "parakeet chow" - aka, the dry food for birds (she only picks at it rarely), and cuttlebone (calcium). I offer millet sprays and she attacks those quickly. I give her tastes of suitable people foods (I'm vegetarian so most of what I eat, she can too)... to my knowledge I've never given her anything "bad" or "poisenous."

Tips on how to get her to put on weight and/or figure out what's causing the pale feces?

My friend saw a bird in her back yard in northern florida. Red like a cardinal on its back and wings and grey underneath with a long tail. No tuft on its head, and it was not a cardnial. Any answers?
