My friend saw a bird in her back yard in northern florida. Red like a cardinal on its back and wings and grey underneath with a long tail. No tuft on its head, and it was not a cardnial. Any answers?

kind of hard to say from such a vague description, was the head grey or red? Bill shape....long and thin, thick like a cardinal? You can try and look up the bird at a couple different websites to try and narrow down the species. Try these:

Do you have a little more information? How big was the bird? The size of a Cardinal or a Robin or a Dove maybe? How long was the bill? Were there any spots on the bird?

How about buying a bird book? Search in the pages and when you see the exact picture of that bird, read the description to see what is that bird.
