Hi i'm llooking for a cockatiel rescue. We took a hand feed out of a home because he was just in a cage by himself all day. We'd like to find a better home for him with other birds and someone who would play with him and let him out more. How do bird lovers deal with the fact that you can't house break a bird?

I don't know where you're located, but a rescue I recommend to everyone is http://www.mickaboo.com It used to be limited, mainly in name, to cockatiels but it's recently changed to encompass all avians.

I don't have a problem with not having house broken lovebirds. I just keep a roll of toilet paper in the living room where they spend most of their time, and since I'm always there to supervise their out-of-cage time, I can clean it up as they poop 'cause I'll see it. It's not really a problem, and over the past six years, I've definitely gotten used to it. While bird diapers are available, they should not be worn for too long periods of time because birds have such fast metabolisms and poop every 7 to 15 minutes. The diapers fill up fast. I'd rather chase after my birds when I see them preparing to poop than change diapers every half hour or so.
