Yes, it is. In fact, many bird food companies have taken up this opportunity to manufacture their own kind! Have fun treating your birdie!

its safe alright! at the aviary i work at, there are 650+ birds that eat it as a treat! i walk around to all the cages and share it with all of them. ive never had any trouble with it. my bird loves the stuff, especially the kettle corn flavor. if you do use flavored popcorn, dont do it oftem. as stated earlier, it can be harmful to give your bird large amounts of fats and cholesterols.
the thing with the sunflower seeds, thats a load of you know what. go to a sunflower field and look around, there are birds EVERYWHERE eating them! you know why?
sunflower seeds are high in fat, and most birds do not get much exercise, why you may ask? THEY CANT FLY! if your bird can fly, you can feed him about 5-8 a day, more if he's a spastic little dude. the reason most vets ( and id like to add, most vets dont know JACK about birds!) dont want you to give your bird sunflowerseeds is that, without the ability to fly, they will not get even 10% the exercise they need, and thus, the high fat diet leads to fatty liver disease, which is often irreversable.

Yep, got two of those also... cockatiels, that is. Sunny and Stormy. We've had Sunny for about a year and he's just now learning how not to bite us so gosh darn hard... he draws blood most of the time, but we understand that his first home was a bit of a hostile environment... so we're being as patient as we can with him. It's just now beginning to pay off.
Our little girl, Stormy, she was born in October of this last Fall and she was handfed. She's very gentle and she's extremely friendly... maybe a bit too friendly. She loves to sample our snack foods if she can get at them... which generally she can if either of my daughters are handling her. She especially likes sunflower and pumpkin seeds, various fruits and she's a MAD passion for popcorn!!
She does this little side to side strut or dance whenever my youngest, who shares this mad passion for popcorn with her, is at the microwave getting ready to nuke herself a bag. Just the sound of the cellophane wrapper gets her to jabbering and strutting excitedly.
Our vet doesn't recommend giving it to her to often but now and then might be okay... Yes, no salt is better for your birdy... also, we was told to pay attention to her stools when we were near her cage. They are never supposed to be loose as like if it had diarrhea.

As far as I know, it's fine for them but the thing I would be concerned about is the salt and/or butter on it. Salt is really, really bad for them (but they love it) and I don't think butter or whatever else there is is any good either.
If you buy the unpopped kernels and cook it yourself, it should be sweet. I have 2 cockatiels and they love it.
Bigger parrots with stronger beaks can eat unpopped kernels, they're essentially grains so I can't see that there would be an issue at all.

Hi,
When I got my first cockatiel, it was trial and error. I finally had 21 of them. But the first night I got my first one, I was lying on the couch and Pretty Boy was on my chest. I was eating popcorn. He was eating it with me. All of a sudden he started blowing out popcorn and making the most awful noise! It scared me to death and I knew he was choking on it, but I didn't know what to do. No, I would not feed popcorn to my birds anymore for safety's sake. Also it is not good to feed them many sunflower seeds or peanuts, IF they will eat them. They are like we are, their arteries get clogged also and sunflower seeds and peanuts are high in fat. My vet told me not to give my African grey Parrot over one peanut a week, and if it was him, he would not give any, because they are a root plant, and there is a mold that gets on them that is toxic for birds. He also told me not to feed my parrot over 3 sunflower seeds a week. I was just pouring both down her because she loved them so much. I'm glad I learned a valuable lesson. I hope this helps you.

Instead of sitting and looking at, listen to books on tape while you walk, clean, or garden.

It isnt poisonous to them, but not the best, could get stuck in their craw and cause problems. Stick to cockatiel seed only.

We give all our birds a popcorn party once a week. No butter, oil or salt, and no artificial flavorings. They LOVE it , and it's completely safe.
Have fun!
