My female parakeet has a lump under her tail and sits on the floor of her cage a lot. Is this normal? She's lived in a cage with a male parakeet for five years, but this is the first she's ever shown these signs.

I know, this is kind of stupid to some people, but chickens can be pets too! and we name our pets. Any suggestions? We have a lot of hens (about 25) and 2 roosters. (dont need that many names, just a few for ideas). Thanks!

It's a budgie, we just got it today, it still has fresh water. Right now, it's up in its cage in my room -- its so cute!!

Anyway, I was wondering, how often should I change its food and water? Every 6 hrs, every 8 hours? Advice?

He does not appear to be using his cuddle bone however he sometimes rubs his beak on his perch. I have had him for about a months so he is 3-4 months old now according to the pet store.
The cuddlebone is attached to the side of the cage above his perch for easy access.

I've tried several things, but my parakeet refuses to take a bath. I use the sink of our bathroom to do it because no water dish can fit into our cage. Anyway, I haven't pushed her to do anything, but whenever I turn on the water and show her the pool, she flies the opposite direction and refuses to get in.

The parakeet flew out of the cage while i was cleaning the cage, and then all of the sudden it was flying around the room, and into the windows, then the cat came in and when the parakeet landed, the cat took it in it's mouth, the bird wasn't sruggling, just staying still but still alive, i got it out of it's mouth and put it back into it's cage. It was scared, but will it be ok?

So I have a budgie, and originally, I had a mirror that hung in his cage. He's gotten sadly attached to the mirror, and quite often when the mirror is in the cage, he will be unberably loud. For a budgie, I can understand it's a common behavior, so to quiet him down, I take the mirror out of the cage and he goes from screeching and screaming to pleasant singing, and making quieter noises. When he gets too loud, is it alright to remove the mirror and put it in later on when he calms down? Or should I take a different approach, and just leave the mirror in completely/remove the mirror completely?
