My parents have raised cockatiels for about 15 years. Just the other day my mom said that cheeko could die anyday..due to it just being his time. He is16 years. She said that that is about as long as they live and that their years are not broken up like dog years are in relation to people. The other cockatiels they have had have lived to be aound 14 years old.

17 years old witch is sorda old. A cockatiel in a spacious cage with lots of toys, and a diet with lots of resh fruits and veggies, in addition to the bird seed, and 2 hours of daily social interaction with the owner the cockatiel can potentially live between 20-25 years. The world record for cockatiel life span in captivity is 35 years.

17, birds don't have the 7 year age thing like dogs and cats. Birds age and mature much like humans, and many birds can and have been known to outlive their human nurturers.
