Cockatiels form strong attachments with each other. She attached to you instead of another bird. As weird as is seems, you are her mate. She probably won't want anything to do with the male and resent the time you spend with him.
She may start screaming and biting in retaliation.
OR
She might find the male too irresistable to refuse and bond with him, leaving you out completely.
I think you should be happy with her and not get a male.

4 years of friendly shouldn't effect a bird but with a male around , she may go into mating mode and not want to be as loving toward you.I'd skip it why ruin a good thing, also I know someone who kept the birds in separate cages to sleep and allowed together play time that seemed to work good luck

A fowl oftentimes reaches sexual adulthood at round a million year, so it would want to be perfect for your cockatiel now to not mate till she is about a million year of age. today, she isn't totally developed for breeding yet, and well being issues like egg binding can ensue. they're many times bodily "able" of breeding starting up from 5-6 months of age, yet they don't need reached adulthood yet as a thanks to effectively breed and characteristic offspring.

NO NO NO
I had the same dilema with my cockatiel and got a female for my male. he had nothing to do with me from there on out. bit me when I even tried to feed them.
you are her mate right now and thats all she knows so leave it that way unless you want a aggressive mean bird on your hands.
