I've tried several things, but my parakeet refuses to take a bath. I use the sink of our bathroom to do it because no water dish can fit into our cage. Anyway, I haven't pushed her to do anything, but whenever I turn on the water and show her the pool, she flies the opposite direction and refuses to get in.

A spray bottle would be fine, but I would kinda prefer her to go into the bathing habbits herself. That could be a last resort though!

Try a VERY gentle shower, have your bird on your finger, not a perch, so that you know at every second what the water temperature is, and slowly move the bird under the shower spray. Your parakeet may or may not ever learn to like getting into a pool of water from this exposure, but may love showering instead. It's worth a try. Some birds may never like water, but most will once they get ovet their fear. Best of luck!

Parakeets usually like their privacy when it comes to taking baths. If you cant fit a bowl of water into her cage then thats probely an indication that her cage is way too small. The best thing to do is just leave her to be alone where there is water and if she wants to bathe then she will if she doesnt then she wont and there is nothing wrong with that. What you can also do is put some water in a spray bottle and just mist some water on her so she can clean herself.

Have you tried the bath tub that attaches to the side of your cage where the food dish ususally hangs? I would leave the water (room temperature is the best) there and change on a daily basis your bird will bathe when it is ready. Some birds love the water mine will take a bath almost every day in my cupped hand under the running water then suddenly he will go for a week or so without wanting a bath then back to every day or every other day again. Good luck.

You didn't say if you had seperate cages for your birds? Two birds living in the same cage will more than likely bond with each other and not want anything to do with you, so you are better off housing them in their own cages. You need to give the birds a few days to settle in. While they are adjusting to their new surrondings you can spend time with them interacting through the cage bars by offering them treats, such as spray millet, and talking gently and sweetly to them. Bathing may take some time for them to accept, you can purchase special bird baths that attach to the open door of the bird cage, you simply put a little water in it and the bird will decide when he wants to bathe and splash in it, this may take weeks, even months, before the bird decides to try this so don't get discouraged. You can also try a shallow saucer at the bottom of the cage and many budgies enjoy rolling around in a wet lettuce leaf. You can also mist them with water, but don't freighten them, just a very fine mist. Make sure that bath time is always early enough in the day so that your bird dries completely before going to bed at night. I am including a link to a good website about budgie care.

I have encountered a similr problem with my budgies. I used a spray bottle to get them used to taking baths. They got used to it eventually. Also, some birds just need time and privacy and thats the only way for them. With my budgies, they were reluctant too but then, one morning, i saw my budgie taking a bath.Since you don't want to resort to a spray bottle, I recommend not using water. A lot of birds prefer cleaning themselves in grit, which is crushed shells mixed with menerals. Not only is it edible, it is also very efficient for baths because it stops them from itching and also cleans them. If all else fails, I recommend you buy a spray for parakeets that gets rid of dirt and parasites while being harmless to the birds.

Parakeets usually are esier to bathe when you hand-train them first, but you don't have to. Another option is closing your toilet, and filling your bathtub up with water(parakeets chest level.) Then take your bird cage and put it in the tub. Open the cage and take the parakeet out. IT will have nowhere to go, so it will settle in the water. Good luck.
P.S. Get it used to the sound of running water first. Good luck.

Buy a small plastic bird bath with a mirror on the bottom of it. It helps at times to see themselves (thinking it's another bird,) then they will go in. Check your petshop. If that doesn't work, don't force her, because she won't trust you then. If you have to just use the spray. You could hold her under the tap with lightly running water (luke warm, slightly cool) but don't hold her to hard.

Try spraying her with a spray bottle. Make it feel like rain. My parakeets won't take baths without a fight too. But they have been getting used to the spray bottle.

A sink is too big and scary. I would suggest getting one of those little oval bathtubs (3 inches high) with the mirror on the bottom so he can see himself (or his imaginary 'friend' bird...) to make it more inviting. Fill it just one-fourth or a third of the way to start. He can sit on the rim and will gradually jump in and make everything wet! If you let him fly around, put it on his playground.
