He does not appear to be using his cuddle bone however he sometimes rubs his beak on his perch. I have had him for about a months so he is 3-4 months old now according to the pet store.
The cuddlebone is attached to the side of the cage above his perch for easy access.

to the person who commented about soft things...lol...
a cuddlebone is hard and contains nutriants the birds need as well as a way to maintain their beaks.

He is young and doesn't have a role model to immitate, so try scratching the cuttle bone a bit to freshen it so he will be able to smell it. It does have nutrients - you are right.

Your budgie is still young, so he may not know that he is supposed to use it. I had the same problem with my bugies, but eventually they did start using it when they needed it.Also, your budgie may prefer using the perch instead of the cuttlebone, which is fine. If you really want your budgie to use something with minerals rather than the perch, I would suggest a mineral rock, a similar substance that is more attractive and easier to use than a cuttlebone. Most important, don't wrry about it too much since all budgies, especially the young, go through this phase.

I have had all several different types of birds over the years. My budgie didn't really use hers either. She used her perch and the bars of her cage. I just made sure to keep vitamins in her water and used a few treat foods for her. Good luck, my budgie was one of the most fun birds I ever had.

wow, that's exactly the question i was going to ask! hahaa, and those are the same circumstances. i've had my bird for about 4 months and she scrapes her beak on her perch, not the cuttlebone that is positioned right on the side of the perch, hanging on the cage.
good luck! :)

Well, there are some factors that keep birds from eating a cuttlebone. My parrotlet loves his, yet my conure doesn't like his at all. Some birds don't like certain things, so maybe your budgie doesn't like cuttlebone.

He is not a female. Females eat it. The boys just sharpen their beaks on it.

Budgies will use both for beak sharpening. Don't worry about it.
