I can't stand this double standards that exists! It's like some animals have more value than others. It's okay to test on mice but not on monkeys? It's okay to wear chinchilla fur but not cat or dog fur? It's okay to eat chicken or pork but not veal? It's okay to be against hunting while you stuff a hamburger in your mouth?

If you want to take a stance on an issue, think it through first.

I just made some with just the basic ingredients .... chopped onions, chopped carrots and 3/4 bag of lentils. It came out alright but I was wondering if anyone had a recipe that was REALLY REALLY good... what do you put in your lentil soup?

I've recently gone Vegan (within the past month) and my mother doesn't approve.

She believes that free-range animals, milk cows, laying hens, etc. are all treated humanely.

Personally, I think it's a lie.

Are they treated better?
Treated "humanely", as in nice living space, fresh grass, etc.??

I've always struggled with what some people refer to as 'food addictions', and I've struggled with food from a health perspective even before I was vegetarian. After being vegeterian for a while, I decied to go vegan for animal industry/health, etc, etc. reasons. I've eaten this way for about a year, but whenever my self control gets out of hand as far as caring about my health, controling weight, and binging goes, the caring about whether certain foods contain animal products starts to slowly slip up too. It's not like I'm chomping down on chicken burgers, but I just feel I need to get back on track.
Forgive my rambling, I don't know what kind of responses I'm even really looking for...can anyone relate? Been there, done that? Advice?
Thanks a heap!

What if we come across a world in which animals never evolved beyond single cell organisms, sponges and other simpler animals, but the plants on this world have evolved to be become the dominant life much like on Earth? And on this world plants where able to do this because they where able to not only use photosynthesis but also take in large amounts of nutrients because the could exploit the energy with in lesser plants. And say on this world a race plants had evolved to be just as advanced as us. This world we could say was the mirror image of plant and animal life of our own( imagine 60 foot sponges towering above instead of oaktrees), and the plant people of this world had a sect of persons who thought it was morally wrong that plants feed on other plants and claimed that doing such was murder. In fact these plant-folk exclaimed that true moral virtue was in eating a soley animal based diet and that the use of plants as pets, food, clothing ect.. was wrong.

How would vegans view these people? How would their counterpart carnivore only sect view vegans?

Every time I look and any vegan/vegetarian questions someone who doesn't support it is saying all the people they know who are are skinny and pale, and it's kinda ticking me off.

I'm skinny and pale.

I also eat meat of all sorts regularly. I live in the country, in a farming community so our freezer will have everything from beef to chicken to wild turkey to elk and venison, pork, etc. I'm far from being a vegetarian or vegan.

Skinny comes from my genetics and the fact that I eat decent portions and exercise unlike a lot of my fellow fat @ss Americans. The palepart is because I'm German/Irish in heritage and not a fan of tanning beds or skin cancer.

Why don't people understand that that is genetics at work, not diet? Vegan/Vegetarian isn't synonomous with malnutrition, and a lack of protein doesn't make you skinny and pale anyway, it gives you a giant distended stomache like all the starving kwashiorkor afflicted kids in Africa.

I met a vegetarian the other day who works in a zoo. He doesn’t wear animal skin, so I assume his choices are based on more than “dietary” reasoning.

It just seemed odd to me that a vegetarian would work in a zoo. Whatever works for him and makes him happy is fine by me; I’m not judging; it just got me thinking about the concept. I don’t think I would be able to work in a zoo. If I tried, I doubt I would make it long.

What do you think vegetarians and vegans? Would you be able to work in a zoo?
(Please no mean or rude answers.)

I ask how many of you eat cheeseburgers and pizza with meat on it? Then warn you because this is one thing that God is quite clear about. Check it out, look it up, and think about the mortal sin.

The Bible clearly states that we are not supposed to mix meat and dairy in the same meal. So, for you wonderful God-fearing, meat-eating preachers, how many of you truly follow the word of God. Please be honest.

The president of PETA is VERY well known for her famous quote:

"When it comes to having a central nervous system, and the ability to feel pain, hunger, and thirst, a rat is a pig is a dog is a boy." --Ingrid Newkirk

But, on the other hand, PETA makes no secret about the fact that they euthanize unwanted animals, although they admit it is tragic:

http://www.peta.org/about/faq-comp.asp

SOOOO, if humans started overpopulating, would PETA advocate euthanasia for humans???

a rat is a pig is a dog is a BOY......

I don't understand vegetarians. They act like it's wrong to kill animals, but if we didn't then what the hell would we do with them .....just let them takeover? I've killed more animals then most people, and some I eat but some I don't. If a hog is rooting up my pasture, what else am I supposed to do, but shoot him? What's the big deal? Ya'll city people don't understand, because your too worried about "killing harmless animals".
So you don't eat meat... how is that gonna change anything for the better? If you don't like how animals are mistreated then open up a kinder and more gentle slaughter house, maybe you could give them all death by just putting them to sleep. how retarded is that?
Animals are here for our profit, it's not cruel, it's not wrong, it's just life how it's intended to be.

i was surfin the net, and i found this horrible, disgusting video about what they do to animals, and my heart broke, i literally started crying when i saw that evil man take that poor innocent pig, lay it on the ground & tie its feet together and take a cement block and hold it above its little head while it was squealing and let go. i cried so hard when i heard that pigs squeal of fear.

i want to become vegetarian, i want nothing to do with meat anymore, no ANIMAL should be treated like that just so i can have my #7 at mcdonalds, NO ANIMAL. i picture someone doing that to my pig alan (we used to have a pet pig named alan-but he died) or to my dog, or to my cat, and i just cant take it.

i need to talk to other vegetarians, to learn about the lifestyle, what i can eat & etc, if anyone has aim -or- hotmail, please leave your sign in ID name, or send me a message with it, i need to talk to someone.

I use soymilk for the most part, but I still use cheese's. That is about it. The reason for the question is I was at the grocery store, and I was at the checkout counter, they lady commented about all the veggies and misc..........I told her I was a vegetarian. She saw cheese and said I was not really a vegetarian, so I wanted to know.
