I couldnt agree more. I especially don't understand people who love their pets so much, and still eat dead animals. It makes no sense to me at all. Most people wouldn't eat a parrot, but think chicken is okay. Most wouldn't eat a dog, but think a pig is okay to eat. Most wouldn't dream of eating a horse, but don't think twice about a eating a cow. Its so stupid

Well, that's the problem. Vegetarianism and Animal Welfarism is fraught with inherent contradictions. Where do you draw the line? On what basis do you decide what species, procedures or products to consume?
One reason there is such a double standard has to do with the amounts of money that have been spent to convince people that as long as you are eating "humane meat" or buying cosmetics "not tested on animals" that they are doing something and that they can rest easy with their guilt assuaged. This couldn't be further from the thruth.
There is only one choice to avoid the ethical and moral contradictions: a life dedicated to the abolition of animal use and abuse supported by a completely vegan lifestyle.
Non-human animals are not ours to use. As sentient beings they have the right not to be exploited as a resource. They are not food. They are not test subjects. They are not property.

I am an ethical Vegan and have been for 25 years ...so I think you know my position ... but after reading much on this forum I realize that many people still believe that Elsie is happy living on a farm and giving milk .. and when her times comes some nice farmer .. puts her to sleep ,she goes into dreamland and never wakes up .. I guess they have never heard of factory farming even though it is close to 80 percent of all us animal farms today (25 years ago it was about 30 percent) ..I think it may be better to try and educate those who don't know .. Cows only make milk when they are pregnant or have given birth..it is made for their young.. we are the only animals on the planet that consume milk after weaning and the only ones that take another mother's milk for our own ...factory farm cows are hooked to machines..24 hours a day ..they never walk on grass or are out in daylight ..they are kept pregnant and give birth although they never get to spend a day with their young ..and after about 4 pregenancies in a row ( about 6 years total) they are killed.. (that is too long to discuss now the method) ... these cows suffer ulcerations..many infections.. a lot of pain.. and never enjoy a day of their lives..so to those who do not know ..check out it..you can see some at farm sancutary... http://www.factoryfarming.com/ .. but there is much more ..and for those who did not know I hope you will take the time to learn the truth so you understand what the fuss is about .. the rest of what you are saying goes to the same points ..just different animals in different situation that I believe most people don't know about ,don't believe is true because then they might have to do something , or some who just don't care ... last I just want to say that any step in the right direction I am in favor of, because one step leads to another..

"It's okay to test on mice but not on monkeys? It's okay to wear chinchilla fur but not cat or dog fur?"
Well, for some people, yes.
Look at it this way: do you (1) make efforts to rid your home of pests, including insects? I doubt very many people at all gingerly escort roaches outside without killing them, and (2) have pets?
That's not meant to be a justification for the eat-burgers/'hate' fur crowd; it's just not that hard to see what might be going on there.
These things are rarely so black and white as one might like.

People take stands on things based on personal opinions. Just because they are against animal cruelty doesn't mean they are going to go to extreme measures to rid themselves of all animal products. People have different values for different animals. Eating chicken and pork is okay to them because they are adult animals but veal is baby cow, and they feel guilty eating babies. Chinchillas are not view as family pets, where as cats and dogs are. It's all about peoples values for different animals. Every society has different values. For example, in other parts of the world, people worship cows and eat dogs and cats. It's just the way people are.

I think it's plain cruel to eat animals i mean seriously what did they do to us for us to kill them?? sometimes i think the reason for some animal attachs is because we eat them!!! I'm a vegetarian and i go against this all the wayy!! There are a lot of ways to get your protein instead of getting them from animals!!

I don't believe in eating meat, but I would rather have an ally who was against animal cruelty who ate meat than somebody who just didn't care.

#1 People don't hunt cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys, etc...these animals are raised on farms where I live and the farmer has them butchered and cut up and people can buy them by the side of whatever. I try not to consume store bought beef because who knows what the hell it's made of. Monkeys are smart and mice are just something for a cat to chase but if it makes a difference to you, i do not purchase products tested on any animal regardless of what it is. I also do not hunt and never will. I've never eaten deer, moose or bear meat and I've never had rabbit stew or partridge and I don't really support people who do hunt. I don't see the point in it myself. I guess it just isn't all that appealing to me. I don't wear fur either, regardless of what animal it is made out of. People who wear fur are just ensuring that another beautiful animal becomes endangered or extinct.
I don't really understand your question about people that eat meat that are against animal cruelty. What does eating meat have to do with animal cruelty. People have been eating meat of all kinds for years and years and years. Long before vegitarianism and veganism even came to be. I eat meat but only certain kinds...I am a big fan of beef...not moose steaks or anything like that...i like beef from cows that are raised on farms and butchered by the farmer...i like steak, hamburger, and roast beef, i also like chicken and turkey...christmas dinner just wouldn't be christmas dinner without turkey! I only like bacon and ham from Pigs...I don't like anything that starts with the word Pork. I am not a supporter of hunting or hurting animals in any way. I'm the kind of person who turns back around to make sure the skunk i just clipped by my car is ok...you should provide some more info concerning your stand point and where you are coming from before you get on the internet and start ranting about some ridiculous bull shhh-it if you ask me. Maybe you just have a hankering for a nice big juicy bar-b-q steak and your spinach salad without dressing just isn't cutting it for you.

I tend to agree with you. What gets me the most is those who claim to love animals yet eat them. Most people who say they love animals are really just talking about their own cat or dog.
