I have purchased a large eye of round beef oven roast and I am cutting up a portion of it into chunks to make a stew in my slow cooker. I have to add some water and it seems funny to throw the blood down the drain. Any problems with using it? Sounds horrible but thought I'd ask. Thanks

I soaked red beans overnight for the first time, and some of them have split open and most of the skins have shriveled or come loose. Is this normal? Can I still use them? HELP! I need to start my dish soon!

Which one is better? Which one do you prefer and why? I heard some people say that those two different soy sauces have different characteristics and are meant for different uses? .... I have no idea... what would be the use of each?

I have stew beef defrosted. I can make a stew, or a beef stir-fry. It's an overcast cloudy day in the mid-60's now in the Phoenix area. Half of me says hearty beef stew w/noodles, but I made it last week. Half of me thinks a little bit of a spicy stir-fry w/egg rolls, and I haven't made that in a few weeks. Hubby doesn't care what I make. Any other suggestions?

What's the best beef to fat ratio and what sort of ground meat should I use? Just beef or a mixture and what do I mix into it if anything? My hamburgers are tasteless and dry. A friend of mine told me to buy ground beef with a fair amount of fat, but I find them a little too greasy. Do you think I should use ribeye and have that ground up for a burger?

Hi. I made my first ever Christmas cake about a month ago. It's turned out beautifully but I did cut the top off to make it flat. I've got it wrapped in greaseproof paper and it's in a tin and I've been putting a few teaspoons of brandy on it once or twice a week.

I've never done this before, and I just feel a bit funny that it's been hanging around so long. It looks and smells fine but someone told me I shouldn't have cut the top off as it may go mouldy.

Also, when is the best time to ice it?

I know that you can't use pyrex on the stovetop, but the carafe on my coffeemaker broke and I've found it it would cost me more to replace it than I originally paid for the coffee maker (which I got just a month ago). I was thinking of getting a pyrex measuring cup- which would only cost me a couple bucks. I just don't know if the hot plate part of the warmer gets so hot that it would shatter the pyrex or something.

I am not sure which could be more painful. I don't know how you can boil water and have the pan say "ENOUGH ALREADY!", but, dangit I love my wife, and I don't think she should be arrested for attempted homicide for the threats she has made on my life with extraterrestial objects such as "Deep Fried Tuna Helper". What do you think?
