Make carmel to use as a topping for desserts like ice cream:

Oven method; Pour 1 can sweetened condensed milk into 9 inch pie plate. Cover with foil; place in larger shallow pan. Fill larger pan with hot water. Bake at 425 degrees for 1 1/2 hours or until thick and caramel colored. Beat until smooth.

Stovetop Method: Pour 1 can condensed milk into top of double boiler; place over boiling water. Over low heat, simmer 1 to 1 1/2 hours or until thick and caramel colored. Beat until smooth.

Microwave Method: Pour 1 can condensed milk into 2 quart glass measure. cook on 50 % power (medium) for 4 minutes, stirring briskly every 2 minutes until smooth. cook on 30% power (medium-low) 12-18 minutes ot until very thick and caramel colored, stirring briskly every 2 minutes until smooth.

CAUTION; Never heat an unopened can of condensed milk as is sometimes recommended. There have been many cases of it exploding!

sweetened condensed milk is EXTREMELY sweet. It is used in cooking, making pies, sweets etc. It is not a "drink". It is very thick and sugary. It does taste good, but is not a drink. You may be thinking of regular condensed milk that is kinda like milk but highly concentrated and canned. This is also used for cooking. I love milk and would probably throw up if I had to drink this. You are much better off drinking fresh milk. Fresh milk is for human drinking consumption. The others.....I'd never be able to drink them and most other people wouldn't either.

The carmel recipes (above) -- sometimes called Dulce de Leche -- are terrific and you should definitely make it some time. It's awesome as a topping for ice cream, fruit, little dry cookies, in a layer cake, spread on your finger and licked off, eaten with a spoon. Heck, you could eat it on a pine cone and it would taste good.

Another yummerific idea is to just add condensed milk to very strong coffee. Drink hot or over ice. Many Vietnamese places serve this, and it's great.

I am so glad you asked this question. My favorite dessert to make with sweetened condensed milk are "Magic Cookie Bars" They are so good and addictive. My family and I love these. And whenever I make these the whole 13x9 pan is gone within 2 days. You have got to try this recipe. I also add a cup of white chocolate chips to this recipe. It makes it even better.

Seven Layer Magic Cookie Bars
Servings: Makes 2 to 3 dozen bars
Serving Size: 1/24 of a recipe
Nutrition: See Below
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 25 minutes
Total Time: 35 minutes

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine, melted
1 (14-ounce) can EAGLE BRAND® Sweetened Condensed Milk (NOT evaporated milk)
1 cup (6 ounces) butterscotch-flavored chips
1 cup (6 ounces) semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 1/3 cups flaked coconut
1 cup chopped nuts

Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (325°F for glass baking pan). In small bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs and butter; mix well. Press crumb mixture firmly on bottom of 13x9-inch baking pan.
Pour EAGLE BRAND® evenly over crumb mixture. Layer evenly with remaining ingredients; press down firmly with fork.
Bake 25 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool. Chill if desired. Cut into bars or diamonds. Store leftovers covered at room temperature.

Notes: Tip: For perfectly cut cookie bars, line entire pan (including sides) with a sheet of aluminum foil first. When bars are baked, cool and lift up edges of foil to remove from pan. Cut into individual squares. Lift off of foil.

Place banana in tortilla shell. Roll banana in the flour tortilla. Seal edges with water like when frying a wonton and deep fry until tortilla is crispy and blistered. Then serve with chocolate sauce and sweetened condensed milk on top...with a side of whipped cream...YUM!
