I soaked red beans overnight for the first time, and some of them have split open and most of the skins have shriveled or come loose. Is this normal? Can I still use them? HELP! I need to start my dish soon!

YES, they will split and puff out. They will look like this: http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images/view?back=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.search.yahoo.com%2Fsearch%2Fimages%3Fei%3DUTF-8%26p%3Dsoaking%2Bbeans%26ni%3D20%26fr%3Db2ie7%26b%3D61&w=500&h=375&imgurl=static.flickr.com%2F58%2F197649931_c59bd68257_m.jpg&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.flickr.com%2Fphotos%2F60653482%40N00%2F197649931%2F&size=163.7kB&name=197649931_c59bd68257.jpg&p=soaking+beans&type=jpeg&no=70&tt=207&oid=a99b513de96a4920&fusr=RainDowg&tit=RedBeans&hurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.flickr.com%2Fphotos%2F60653482%40N00%2F&ei=UTF-8&src=p
Hey I did the same thing, I soaked them all last night, & cooked Cajun red beans and brown rice this morning. It turned out excellent. Now I am full and well you know what will happen after while! I'll be bloated and full of hot air!

yes that's a good thing

When you cook beans especiialy red or kidney beans they are supposed to split or shrivel that's how you know they are safe to eat.

Boiling or soaking helps to remove the toxins.

No worries! Cook and enjoy!

That is completely normal. Your beans are in the process of swelling back up and they are drinking the water.

Good for you to use dried beans when you have a chance over the easy canned beans! It is definitely worth it~

Yea, it isn't a problem though I've never had the skins come off of all of the beans. That's odd. Are any of them spouting too? How long have you had them in the pantry? If they aren't spouting then I'd just go ahead and cook them.

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.

They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!

This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.

It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.

Yes---dawling--this is common---where are you from? Didn't ya Mamma teach you how to cook? Your beans are fine--what time should I arrive for dinner?

Oh goodness.! Throw those out right away! Im guessing there is too much lime in you water which causes beans to shrivel.

Yes, it's very normal. If they are wrinkled they aren't ready yet.

Yes, they will swell back up as you cook them.
