Using cinnamon raisin bread gives such wonderful flavour.
1 loaf cinnamon raisin bread (or any other type of bread of choice)
Melted butter to grease griddle
6 eggs
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 orange, zested and juiced
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon fresh ground nutmeg
Orange Bourbon Butter, recipe follows
Heat griddle to 350 degrees F and lightly brush with a butter soaked piece of paper towel.
Combine eggs, heavy cream, orange zest and juice, cinnamon and ground nutmeg in a shallow wide dish. Dip the slices of bread into the egg mixture allowing it to soak in on both sides. Transfer to each piece to the hot griddle and cook until golden brown on both sides, about 3 minutes per side. Try to flip only once.
Serve with Orange Bourbon Butter.
For the Orange Bourbon Butter:
1 pound unsalted butter, softened
2 tablespoons orange flavored liqueur (recommended: Cointreau)
2 tablespoons bourbon
3 tablespoons orange zest
Cream the butter in a mixer. Add the bourbon and orange zest and mix well. Leave at room temperature and serve with the French toast.
**If you don't want to use the Bourbon butter, just use maple syrup and/or whipped cream.
Hope that helped :-)
Enjoy!!

Make an egg wash. Crack eggs into a mixing bowl and add 1 tsp milk per egg. Add 1/2 tsp cinamon, 1/2 tsp granulated sugar and 1/8 tsp vanilla extract.
There are two schools of thought on French Toast:
1) Let the bread sit in egg mixture so that it totally soaks it up
2) Lightly dip the bread in egg wash on both sides
Either way, cook them in a pan with clarified butter until they are golden brown on each side. A portable griddle works pretty good too!!
Clarified butter can be made by melting a pound of butter. Skim the foam off the top. There will be a sediment on the bottom. Ladle the clear butter into another container and discard the sediment.
I like using thick sliced French bread.

2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/8 tsp. cinnamon
6 slices bread (the older, the better; and I use Texas Toast bread)
1 tbsp. (or more, as needed) butter
Maple syrup, jam, powdered sugar or strawberry sauce - see recipe below (for topping)
Beat eggs, milk, vanilla and cinnamon in a shallow bowl or small baking pan.
Dip bread into egg mixture (don't soak the bread for too long) and coat both sides.
Melt butter in skillet over medium heat.
Add bread in batches and cook 2 to 3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
Add more butter as needed.
Serve the toast warm with syrup, jam, or powdered sugar. (I often serve them with Strawberry Sauce).
Strawberry Sauce
1 pt. strawberries, hulled
1/2 c. granulated sugar
2 tbsp. lemon juice
Cut strawberries into halfes. Saute strawberries, sugar and lemom juice until it becomes sauce-like. Makes about 1 2/3 cups.
