I know that you can't use pyrex on the stovetop, but the carafe on my coffeemaker broke and I've found it it would cost me more to replace it than I originally paid for the coffee maker (which I got just a month ago). I was thinking of getting a pyrex measuring cup- which would only cost me a couple bucks. I just don't know if the hot plate part of the warmer gets so hot that it would shatter the pyrex or something.

But I think it'd be worth a try... coffee makers don't get as hot as a stove top!

If it doesn't work out try doing a search for the carafe on eBay....you never know, someone may have one without the coffee maker!

Pyrex Coffee Cups

You might be able to do that, but you'd be better off getting a new carafe. Look in your owner's manual - call them and tell them that it was chipped when you got it or something and they'll send you a new one.

Be careful if you decide to use a measuring cup, though. Most coffee makers have a pause-n-serve feature, and if the lever isn't pressed down (as it is when the carafe is under it), you will overflow out of the top of the unit.

It should work as the carafe is Pyrex. But, a measuring cup a thicker pyrex and it may not stay as hot. But, if you like me and ready to pour a cup when it stop gurgling, then it be hot.

It shouldn't be a problem if you follow a simple step beforehand. Rinse the cup out with hot water to warm it up a little before you put it on the hotplate. This will avoid the rapid temperature change that causes the pyrex to crack. Great idea though. When my pot broke I used a giant coffee cup to make one big mug at a time.

If you got the coffee maker only a month ago, I would go back to the manufacturer and get a new free carafe because your unit should be under a warranty period.

You can also get replacement carafes at places like Kmart or Target. Good luck!

Turn the coffee pot on and hold your hand on the burner and time the amount of time it takes your hand to melt, if its over an hour, My guess would be yes go ahead and use the pyrex.
