Last night I decided to go all out and buy a $50, 1.74 lb prime "butterflied" tenderloin/filet mignon for tonight's valentines day dinner.
I typically don't doubt my steak cooking talent, but then again I typically don't cook steak of this cost/quality/thickness. And I only have one..so there is no room for a screw up (as opposed to your cheaper $5.99-9.99/lb rib-eye from Safeway).
I should have all the neccessary spices/ingredients/equipment to work with. I have a good gas grill w/ thermometer,an oven w/broiler & griddle if neccessary. I like steaks the way they were meant to be eaten light seasonings, browned outside (not burnt), and medium rare inside. Any recommendations on cooking? I'm sure you'll all come up with great ideas, so it'll be hard to choose the best answer. Thanks a bunch.

I'm your standard fella - no idea how to cook meals, usually I eat take away once a day for lunch then starve til next lunch. When I search the web for 'simple cooking' ideas I get 'advanced cordon bleu' or so it seems to me. I've lost a lot of weight the past few years (didn't need to) and i have to start eating better. Can anyone suggest something that even the worst male cook can make and eat without poisoning himself too badly

Followed the recipie which was dark chocolate, butter, double cream and sugar. Melted the choc over barely simmering water, mixed the cream and sugar then added this to the choc. It has separated and I don't know what to do :( Was quite expensive ingredients and i dont want to give up on this lovely valentines treat x

Anyone know how to cook inside? We usually grill, but it is very cold here and my hubby asked me to cook indoors for V-DaY! I am nervous!

I have a Wilton Cake pan and I live in a country where there is no shortening available. I tried greasing it with margarine and flouring it, but the cake stuck. I don't know what to do now. Does anyone have any suggestions what is a good substitute for shortening? I am considering using a liquid vegetable oil and spraying it onto the pan with my pampered chef sprayer (we can't buy the commercial ones here and I need the cake tomorrow). Has anyone tried this?

I've tried melting a couple different kinds ie. hershey's kisses with a double boiler but it starts to harden too quickly and gets goopy.
