I have a Wilton Cake pan and I live in a country where there is no shortening available. I tried greasing it with margarine and flouring it, but the cake stuck. I don't know what to do now. Does anyone have any suggestions what is a good substitute for shortening? I am considering using a liquid vegetable oil and spraying it onto the pan with my pampered chef sprayer (we can't buy the commercial ones here and I need the cake tomorrow). Has anyone tried this?

I use spray all the time just try not to get any pooling. If you do just invert the pan and then dust with flour to aid in the cake release. Do you have butter? Butter works well also after buttered dust pan with flour. When I was in cooking school we made our own cake release with butter and flour mixed together making a paste that aiding in our cake release, but in essence if you butter then flour the pan it should work.

Pam and then flour (Pam is fantastic). Butter and flour (NOT MARGARINE). I've even used vegetable oil (you don't need a sprayer, just pour some onto a paper towel and wipe it into the pan) You could also line the pan with oiled parchment paper (if it's tound or square).

Hope this helps!

Pour about a tablespoon of the liquid oil in each pan, then take a paper towel and coat the pan well. Place about 1 teaspoon of flour in each pan, and shake it around (over the sink) and dump the excess. The cake should come out fine!

I wish you well!

When I took my cake decorating class, the told me not to put them in the dishwasher (I guess the cakes will start sticking). He also told us to greese the pan, but no need to flour.
