Marriage & Divorce - 2 December 2007

[Selected]: All categories Family & Relationships Marriage & Divorce

He wants to marry me now, but I want to live together a few months before we do the whole "I do" thing.

I'm a Christian, yet I can't imagine marrying my boyfriend without living with him first. When you live with someone twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, you get to see 110% of who they are. What if we got married and I find I can't stand living with him and we end up getting divorced?

I'm torn because my parents always talk badly about people who "shack up" without being married, yet my parents lived together before getting married and my Mom says she's glad she did.

Opinions?

I'm not quite ready for marriage, but I don't want to lose my boyfriend; I love him more than anything. What should I do?

I have been married for nine years and have two children with my husband. His family hates me because none of them have ever had a happy relationship and they see he is happy. I am more than 10 years older than he is, and this is a constant source of fun-making for them- to him. He has asked them to stop, but they can't stand me. I have bent over backwards for them - great presents, family meals, etc. In all of these years, they still have nothing kind to say about me. I am more educated and more refined, and I think this is another reason for their insecurity with me. I am ready to write them off.

In january of 2007 I found on my phone bill where my husbands ex- girlfriend had called him few times. Well did not say anything at the time and I was just watching and the calls were only incoming calls. She stopped calling in febuary.

I recently found messages from her on his webpage she was asking him how he is doing and when did he get married. He said how do you know I am married and then he said you know to much got to go.

Then I sent her a friend request on myspace and she asked who is this and the she said funny. We got into a little arguement in the arguement she said your husband does not love you because if he did he would not cheat on you. Then I asked her when did he cheat and with who she said with her one time in January the same time I saw her calling him.

So I asked him about it and he says she is lying. He said she always looking for me I don't look for her and in january she got his number from a friend of his and she searched for him on the web but he never contacted her.

I do believe her because she is getting married but then agian I dont because why would she be calling him and sending him messages and also when I contacted her she got very upset.

She also told me he cheated on her all the time.

I feel once a cheater always a cheater right?

So who do I believe her or my husband?

We have been at odds lately, but I thought we were going to a counselor to make it work. He decided he needed to do more things with out me, no problem. He is part of these survey groups and I thought that was where he was going last night.
Found out he rented a tux, and went to a black tie fund raiser that a woman he met on Craigslist invited him to. He says nothing happened, and I do believe him. I do however think he stepped out of line.
BTW, he has NEVER rented a tux to take me out in 10 years.

Ok...my ex boyfriend and i have 2 children together, my daughter is 2 and my son is 1. My ex has not seen my daughter in almost 2 years and has never seen my son. He blames me but he knew where we were. His name is not on either's birth certificate and they have my last name. He pays me support but it's been on and off. He calls but my daughter won't talk to him. He has never sent a birthday card or Christmas card or presents for either one. My current boyfriend and i are getting married soon and we both would like him to adopt my kids but i don't know all the ins and outs of getting this done in PA...what can i do??? Can he adopt them without us being married??? How long do we have to be married before he can adopt them if that is the case??? I really would like to know....can anyone help me????

I was married to this guy for 7 years. for the last 9 months of the relationship i slept on the couch because he insisted that he couldn't perform sexually with me unless porn was playing. then i decided to do something with my life and went back to school. while I was there he accused me of sleeping with someone else and then sexually assulted me. a few days later i found out he was sleeping with my 16 year old sister. now 4 years later we are seperated pending the divorce finalization and I have moved on. since he found out that i had a new boyfriend he has been trying to hug me and touch me when he comes to pick up my kids. I dont like this and have reported to CPS that i dont like the way he acts towards my kids and today he tried to kiss me in front of my new boyfriend. i told him i wanted him to leave and he did but he still continues to treat me like i'm his girlfriend and we have had a fight. i told him if he tries to kiss me again i would file charges but he didn't care...

I'm sure you have a pet peeve against your spouse, what's yours. Mine is when my fiance comes home, he takes his clothes off and throws it in the hamper, regardless that he wore it for only a few minutes, and its considered dirty to him. Whice tends to piss me off, because I would have to do the laundry daily each day. Well, what's yours?

the issue I am having is I make 10-15 grand more than he does. He will constantly talk about work, and he volunteers for extra work, and there is no way they will give him a higher position soon. It’s been a battle with us ever since we got together. We both work for the same company, and I always feel like the company is always going to come before me. He is determined to move up, which I really don't think will happen. He decided to take on an overnight shift for two months, and of course this is killing things. I have lost my sex drive, having more panic and depression that I have had in months. I also took a week of leave to try to fix things. He didn’t take any time off at all. I do most of the cleaning and yardwork on my own. I feel really alone, and at this point I am considering a divorce. I am trying to schedule to see a counselor, just wish he would take the initiative to do it first. When he tries to get close to me, I don't want to be near. What can I do? :(

Ok here we go! My friend is in a relationship that's very up and down. She and her husband fight constantly and it leaves her in tears every single time. She wants us all to go out on a double date so the spouses can get to know one another. She's always telling me she wants us all to be friends. Well...friday she was over my house, and her husband was at his friends house. She was talking to him on the phone when they begin argueing bc she's clingy and never wants her husband away from her. He wanted to kick it with his friends, and told her to kick it with me. I seen this was going to be another fight which would leave her in tears, so I asked to speak to her husband whom I asked if she could stay with me bc he's possesive so I have to ask, he said "im trying to tell her that" when I handed the phone back to her and they finished talking she said this "what did you say to him bc he was acting different after talking to you" keep in mind I was sitting rt next to her when I spoke with

Does your spouse have the same colored eyes as you? I once heard recently that married people often marry someone with the same eye color and that the marriage will often last longer if they do. Not sure how true this is, but I was curious to see how many people have married a person with the same color eyes.

-- The "Middle Wife" by an Anonymous 2nd Grade Teacher :

I 've been teaching now for about fifteen years. I have two kids myself, but the best birth story I know is the one I saw in my own second-grade classroom a few years back.

When I was a kid, I loved show-and-tell. So I always have a few sessions with my students. It helps them get over shyness and usually, show-and-tell is pretty tame. Kids bring in pet turtles, model airplanes, pictures of fish they catch, stuff like that. And I never, ever place any boundaries or limitations on them. If they want to lug it in to school and talk about it, they're welcome.

Well, one day this little girl, Erica, a very bright, very outgoing kid, takes her turn and waddles up to the front of the class with a pillow stuffed under her sweater.

She holds up a snapshot of an infant.

First of all I don't think he's good enough for her, granted he's a great guy, a "good catch" but I just don't think he's her match. She's 22 (which I don't think is old enough) but she wants to have kids and the whole big thing from age 25-30 (she's engaged now). She's talked to me about it and she loves him but I can tell she's hesitating.

He's not romantic enough for her wants (well he's not really at all) she'll tell him things she wants to do and without him ever contemplating it before (like ice fishing, hunting, pilots liscense, ect) he'll go out and do it with is buddies with out her.

Together they just seem like the type of people that will grow old and not do anything, and that's not her at all. She wants to live her life and I want to encourage it. I told her I don't think he's good enough for her but stopped there because don't know how to say how I feel. She needs to make her own decision but I feel I need to tell her more of how I see it. How do I tell her that?
