I'm a 24 year old female (California) and my dad beat up my little brother (they live in South Dakota) and now he is in jail. My little brother is in foster care (this happend 3 days ago) My dad may go to prison and is in bad health, regardless my dad wanted me to take care of my little brother (he is 7) What's the difference between getting custody of him and adopting him? In order for me to financially be able to take care of him I would move to Houston, TX much sooner than I had planned, but it still will work. My dad gets money monthly either from the mother(who gave up her rights) or by the state. This whole thing is a friggin mess. My mother (not the same as my little brothers mom) has been helping my dad take care of my little brother, but she can't get him because she is not his "real"family, but she will help me take care of him. I just dont want him to grow up in foster homes. I need to step up and take care of him. I dont know how to go about it from out here.

this story is 100% exactly how it happened. Tell me if you think that my daughters mom is dumb or what.

My daughter was at her moms house ( we are not together) and I normally go home after work, shower, and take of on a 40 mile drive to pick my daughter up every Friday. Well I got home one Friday from work to get ready to pick my daughter up and My ex left a message on my house phone that said "If you are coming to pick Lindsey (my daughter) up then you will have to leave straight from work because I am leaving at 6:00 to go to my moms.

The only way I could know to leave straight from work would be if I was already home making it already too late. Did she do this so I couldn't see my daughter or what? I have a hard time believing that someone could possibly be that stupid.

History; When I was an infant my mother began having an affair with my step father and left my biological father for him, taking me with them. My step-father (we'll call him Jim) also left his wife and 2 year old daughter to marry my mother and then adopted me legally when I was 5 since my biological father died of cancer. They never tell me that I'm not his (Jim's) real daughter until I "accidentally" learn this from my grandmother at the age of 13. We had a major conflict of personalities during my teen years and we stopped talking completely. Jim never spoke to his own brother, and often would cut his friends out of his life, and never speak with them again. I left home for college at 17, got married -he wouldn't even hug me back at my wedding or answer me when I asked a question, now I have two kids. Since I became a Christian, I've forgiven him and tried to be open, but he still will not look at me and has trouble speaking with me one on one. What can I do other than pray?

In your opinion, given the state of so many of our schools, is it wiser to home school your children and avoid the mess all together- or to send your children to these schools and get involved as a parent to help make these schools better for everyone?

I am almost 5 months pregnant. My bf turned out to be selfish, financially irresponsible and unsupportive. I tried to work it out, but he left anyway. He claimed that he wants to be a part of the baby's life, but not mine. He won't even call me back to discuss my doctor's appointments, or money he owes me. I don't think that he would hurt my baby, I just don't think he is responsible enough to care for the baby. I don't think I can prove him unfit, how else can I secure primary custody?

My ex has title of "primary household" over our son even though we have joint custody...my ex has a history of domestic violence against me, which is why I divorced him , and now he has had an altercation with his stepfather, in which physical violence is involved. He was living with his mother and his stepfather with our son. My son is otherwise loved, but I fear for his mental health. My ex moved out and is living with his on-again-off-again girlfriend. His previous girlfriend was on-again-off-again as well, which he moved out of her house at least three times, with my son. This is an unstable environment for my son, and my ex has always been controlling, manipulative, etc, which is the ONLY reason he has primary household..I have tried several times to get primary custody, but the court systems suck nowadays, and they want CONCRETE PROOF that there is a BIG reason to change the way the custody arrangement is now. .Any lawyers in the house or anyone who has an opinion?

My boyfriend and the mother of his child have a good relationship. They discuss things about their child, etc and thats fine with me but i found it kind of bothersome when i overheard him giving out advice to her about a child that is not even his. She is married and i just kind of felt like thats something she should be able to talk to her husband about or the father of that child! He says it was just friendly advice but i still felt a little uncomfortable with it. Am i over reacting? should i even be worried about it? just need some thoughts on it.

i have a cousin who has been picking on me for the last 4 years. every single time i am around her i feel uncomfortable and afraid. she bullies me. i don't know if she's just jealous of me or what, but she will not leave me alone . i've tried talking to her, but it only makes things worse. she said she was not going to leave me alone. it seems like no matter what i do---if i stand up to her she gets mad and wants to fight me, and i don't want to fight her and i don't feel that i should have to. but if i ignore her she continues to bully me. should i get a restraining order? she doesn't want me to live my life. it seems as though she HATES to see me happy, and LOVES to see me down and will do whatever it takes to KEEP me down. However, i'm kind of afraid to get a restraining order b/c of what my family will say. They may not approve, but i feel like it isn't their problem----it's mine, and I'M the one going through it. What should I do?

I don't understand why my husband always cringes when I need to visit my family - it hurts my feelings. My parents and siblings live 4 hours away and I only go there to visit 2-3 times a year, but each time he always acts like it is so awful. They are nice and not anything to try to stay away from. His parents and his brothers live close to us and we see them all the time. My nephew is graduating and I want to go to celebrate - he suggested I go without him and then he tries to act cute like he is 1/2 joking but still means it.... Anyone have any ideas, thoughts, suggestions....?

My older sister used to receive welfare checks for her bastard children and she also received a welfare check for rent. My mom bought a house and they both filled out the paperwork to state that my sis paid mom for rent. My mom cashed the check and gave my sister the money Having been a welfare worker, I knew that this was the felony crime of welfare fraud. I turned them in, but I never heard of the outcome, due to privacy issues. They defrauded you and I (read tax payers) to the tune of over $15,000 If they had robbed a bank, I would turn them in. What do you think and would you do the same thing, or would you be an accessory after the fact and hide their crime?

this woman likes to call me awful things like jealous or controlling. she likes to talk about me behind my back in very negative ways. she wanted to have control over my own house and she has even told me to go to h@## in my own house! how awful is that? my husband can't say anything to her either because she will blow up at him. she will not listen to him either. she is manipulative and she does not want to help since she is not allowed in my house. she forgets why she can't come back and it's because she won't cut her crap.
