I was thinking some kind of book that talks about how people just get better with time, just to be kinda lighthearted since she's turning the big 8-0. Any suggestions on a book like this, or any other suggestions? I really appreciate it!

Her hair was up in a pony tail,

her favorite dress tied with a bow.

Today was Daddy's Day at school,

and she couldn't wait to go.

But her mommy tried to tell her,

that she probably should stay home.

Why the kids might not understand,

if she went to school alone.

But she was not afraid; she knew just what to say. What to tell her classmates of why he wasn't there today.

But still her mother worried,

for her to face this day alone.

And that was why once again,

she tried to keep her daughter home.

But the little girl went to school

eager to tell them all.

About a dad she never sees;

a dad who never calls.

There were daddies along the wall in back, for everyone to meet.

Children squirming impatiently,

anxious in their seats

One by one the teacher called a student from the class. To introduce their daddy, as seconds slowly passed.

At last the teacher called her name,

every child turned to stare.

Each of them was searching,

for a man who wasn't there.

"Where's her daddy at?"

she heard a boy call out.

"She probably doesn't have one,"

another student dared to shout.

And from somewhere near the back,

she heard a daddy say,

"Looks like another deadbeat dad,

too busy to waste his day."

The words did not offend her,

as she smiled up at her Mom.

And looked back at her teacher,

who told her to go on.

And with hands behind her back,

slowly she began to speak.

And out from the mouth of a child,

came words incredibly unique.

"My Daddy couldn't be here,

because he lives so far away.

But I know he wishes he could be,

since this is such a special day.

And though you cannot meet him,

I wanted you to know.

All about my daddy,

and how much he loves me so.

He loved to tell me stories

he taught me to ride my bike.

He surprised me with pink roses,

and taught me to fly a kite.

We used to share fudge sundaes,

and ice cream in a cone.

And though you cannot see him.

I'm not standing here alone.

"Cause my daddy's always with me,

even though we are apart

I know because he told me,

he'll forever be in my heart"

With that, her little hand reached up,

and lay across her chest.

Feeling her own heartbeat,

beneath her favorite dress.

And from somewhere here in the crowd of dads, her mother stood in tears.

Proudly watching her daughter,

who was wise beyond her years.

For she stood up for the love

of a man not in her life.

Doing what was best for her,

doing what was right.

And when she dropped her hand back down, staring straight into the crowd.

She finished with a voice so soft,

but its message clear and loud.

"I love my daddy very much,

he's my shining star.

And if he could, he'd be here,

but heaven's just too far

You see he was a firefighter

and died just this past year

When airplanes hit the towers

and taught Americans to fear.

But sometimes when I close my eyes,

it's like he never went away."

And then she closed her eyes,

and she saw him there that day.

And to her mothers amazement,

she witnessed with surprise

A room full of daddies and children,

all starting to close their eyes.

Who knows what they saw before them,

who knows what they felt inside.

Perhaps for merely a second,

they saw him at her side.

"I know you're with me Daddy,"

to the silence she called out.

And what happened next made believers,

of those once filled with doubt.

Not one in that room could explain it,

for each of their eyes had been closed.

But there on the desk beside her,

was a fragrant long-stemmed pink rose.

And a child was blessed, if only for a moment,

by the love of her shining star.

And given the gift of believing,

that heaven is never too far.

They say it takes a minute to find a special

person, an hour to appreciate them,

a day to love them, but then an entire

life to forget them.

Is the family that raised you from birth more important than the family you will start or vice versa? If you had to pick, what would you choose? Why?

My mother-in-law just died after a short illness. She was 85 and also had Alzheimers. My husband and daughter flew back and are helping with arrangements. Due to her lack of financial skills, we will be helping with costs. My husband wants me and our adult son to fly back also. Not counting time off work, it will cost over $1,000 for the two of us to fly back on short notice. There will be a memorial at a lake as she will be cremated. Am I being heartless to not want to spend this money, which we can do but it will hurt? She is gone and I'm sadden by that, but there is nothing I can do about that. My husband will recover just as all of us do after a loss of a parent. Give it to me - I can handle it.

I have a cousin whom lives with myself and few other members of my family. Her and myself are very close, almost as if I was her adopted brother or as if she was my daughter. I'm the one whom she comes to when she is sad ect ect.

She is young and has recently hit puberty. She also recently has 'discovered' herself sexually (as she had not learned the laws of locking a door).

This morning she divulged to me that she had a somewhat erotic dream with myself and her. She was confused by it but not upset. She came to me wondering if this was normal or not. I answered to my best knowledge.

I personally am not sure what to think nor say about it and it's a subject I don't feel would be openly great discussion subject with the rest of the family.

PLEASE no perverted remarks.

First a little background info so that you can understand this. The mother is an overbering type who does not think very highly of her daughter and tries to potray her as an incompetant person who is incapable of making her own decisions. The daughter's oldest child is a child of rape, but has a guy who has taken care of her since birth; he is the only father she has known. The mother does not like this guy; the reason is unknown because he has done nothing but shown her the upmost respect, but will not bow down to her wishes. The daughter and this guy want to have joint placement of the grand-daughter, but the mother is against this arrangement. She has went so far as to threaten taking the daughter to court if she allows the grand-daughter to go over there at all. Do you think that she is right for being against this and for making the threat that she has?

For the past 10 yrs. my sister has called my hubby at work and home to talk to him and forgets I live here too. For some reason she seems to find him a very interesting person to talk to, even though she has tried to convince me that she doesn't like him. He has borrowed large sums of money from her even though I warned her he would not pay her back and has tried to convince me that the only reason she has him to do stuff for her and her hubby is to use him...which I figured out and he refuses to accept. Now I think she is using me too. This past week a good friend of hers asked her to move out the stuff they wanted from their house to storage and to get rid of the rest any way she saw fit. Needless to say she told me to come and look at the stuff they were going to throw away and to take what I wanted. So I did. I also packed up the kitchen for her. 2nite i called her she didn't answer her phone yet 5 mins. later she called my hubby from the same no I called her at. What gives

My daughter just had a baby,(I'm 39) I just drove 6 hours to be there for the delivery. My daughter has nobody around her that can help her at this time. My Mother wants to go visit her but refuses to not bring my brother and his 2 yr.old with her. If they go there is no room in the car for me and my daughters younger sisters to go. I cant afford another trip by myself. Going with her would make it more affordable for me and we have always had fun traveling together in the past. My Brother doesnt care about seeing the baby, my Mom just wants to make a mini vacation out of it.She would be taking my sister as well who is best freinds with my other daughters. My daughter really wants me and her sisters to go, but my Mom wants my Brother and his son to go instead. I'm taking her out of my life! How do I show her how much she has hurt me and my kids? My brother lives with her, she sees him all the time! Cant she live one weekend without them????

The father of my 8 year old daughter only pays child support when he feels like it. He hasn't seen her in 2 1/2 years, but expresses a want to have a relationship with her. She has his last name.
At first, she questioned why he wasn't around and why he no longer sent her presents for her birthday, etc.
Now, she calls my fiance her father (before it was just Dad) and doesn't know why her last name is different from mine. She is totally separating from her real father.
The guy is a jerk, so I really don't care since she does have a father figure but-
I emailed him 6 months ago to see what was going on and to let him know that his relationship with his daughter isn't going to exist if he keeps down this path.
He emailed me back, swearing at me about how I left him and he would be in her life if I hadn't and how anxiety and depression are making him not have contact.
I emailed him back, upsetting him (good), but now he's not paying child support - again.
Any advice on what I should do?

inapropriate. it's kinda crazy, but I think she's flirting and being very permiscuous. I'm not sure if she thinks I will do something with her and pay her more , or if she just wants to do something with me because she is lonely, or attracted?
I don't want to fire her( and really can't legaly) without solid grounds for termination. I've told my wife but I'm not sure if she cares or believes me.

We are considering a home that is nearly back-door neighbors to my parents. Now, they each sit on an acre of property, so you almost can't see one house from the other, and we do get along with them. I'm very close to my mom and my hubby appreciates them (although can be admittadly annoyed ). I do have two young children that would LOVE being so close to grandma and grandpa.

Is this the Waltons....or Everyone Loves Raymond!
