I was thinking some kind of book that talks about how people just get better with time, just to be kinda lighthearted since she's turning the big 8-0. Any suggestions on a book like this, or any other suggestions? I really appreciate it!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, and I wanted to let you know:
1. I live with my Grandma, so she gets plenty of my time.
2. My mom's coming down from up north and we're going out to a restaurant.
3. I will write her a nice card telling her how much I love her, but I want to supplement this with a thoughtful book of poems, quotes, thoughts on aging etc.

My gosh NO books, she must have seen so many books and its boring and such an ordinary gift.
Your Granny seems to be having everything except this; try to bring someone from her time, her generation, maybe an old friend or a relative she hasent seen for a long time and give her a surprise.
Trust me she'll love it. I just did it to my 85 year old grandmother by writing a letter to an old relative of her's not even knowing the address properly and doubtful whether he'll really come.
I'll forever treasure the joy I saw in her face when she met that person. No gift could have taken the place of the happiness I saw in her on that day when he suddenly appeared at our doorstep, just to see her!

Well since I've worked with them for the last three years I think your idea is something she would enjoy.Just don't get a complicated machine for them to figure out. Then they call us on there emergency cord if she's in a nursing home and we have to come back 15 times to set it up for them cuz they can't figure out how to use it.If she's at home and can figure out what the phone is she'll call you at 1am wanting to know how to do it or what the strange noise is.
Also make sure she can hear the message.

I think it is sweet of you to be thinking about your grandma's birthday. The blanket thing sounds nice. I would carry her out to eat also. Carry her to one of those nice restaurants that the waiters come out and sing happy birthday to her. Maybe purchase a cake to share with others at the restaurant. I think she would enjoy it.

I bought my grandma this super soft throw blanet. Every time I go to see her, she has it out or on her. And every time she goes on and on about how soft it is, and how warm it keeps her... My grandma just turned 87. I bought her the blanket a year and a half ago and she still uses it every day...

Old people in your society often feel lonely.
So
I suggest gift her atleast 3650 minutes this year.
P.S: That makes ten minutes a day.

be your own author-write her a letter telling her how much you love her and what it means to have her in your life. that will be something she will treasure until the day she passes on.
