We are considering a home that is nearly back-door neighbors to my parents. Now, they each sit on an acre of property, so you almost can't see one house from the other, and we do get along with them. I'm very close to my mom and my hubby appreciates them (although can be admittadly annoyed ). I do have two young children that would LOVE being so close to grandma and grandpa.

Is this the Waltons....or Everyone Loves Raymond!

Be afraid.
Be very afraid!

My mother-in-law moved in with us for a few months a while back. I was ready to kill. Not that I minded her being there. She was a great help with the baby. But with her there, it killed our (my wife and I) intimacy.

Then we decided to sell our house and rent. So we stayed with my mother for a few months, while we looked for a place. My wife was ready to kill. My mom wanted to involve herself in everything we did. Eventually, I was ready to kill too. We just had a sit-down and explained a few things.

Case being, we moved and got our own place again.
Far, far, far away from the in-laws.

Pretty much it just depends on how balanced your in-laws are.

If you get along well with your parents and your DH doesn't mind, go for it. My mother did that though when she was newly married and she said it was a terrible experience. She got along well with her parents, but she said they were over constantly and after she had me, it got even worse. They would show up announced all the time wanting to take me for the day and offer unsolicited parenting advice. My mother can be very territorial though. I think it would be wonderful for your kids to be near the grandparents and vice-versa.

I would love it as long as you sit down and lay some ground rules. Examples being with the Grandkids. No feeding them before their tea time, the children not being permitted to leave one property for the other. Your SPACE and THEIR space etc.

It might be good, especially if you have two kids, that would be great for them to grow up close to their grandparents...i alaways wished when i was younger to see my grandma and grandpa more...I would consider it, no matter how much they annoy you it would be good to have them near, also in case of emergancy they are there for you!

Sounds like a great deal for all concerned. Parents don't live forever appreciate them while you can.

Sounds OK. It would be so easy to send the kids to visit the grandparents.

I'd do it in a second with my parents or DH's mom. But his dad and step mom would be another story.
