My friend is having a very small wedding with only immediate family. Then she is having a sit down dinner at her home with family. She wants it to be intimate and memorable. And I thought this is cool, and memorable, and cost effective.
Has anyone done this or plans to do so.
I know this tradition started in the 40's to 60's I believe.

A really dear friend of mine lost her husband in Iraq 3 years ago. She's been dating her boyfriend for just over a year. She had a VERY happy marriage with her deceased hubby. she has no wish to marry again. Her first marriage ended in divorce and her second ended in death. Her boyfriend is nice, steady, handsome, romantic, sexy as you know what, and has proposed to her. They are both VERY successful business owners. So I know it's not about money. Her children love this man to death, and she does to. His family adores her as well. She has no desire to every marry again. Her boyfriend is much different then her late husband, but he makes her extremely happy. She's so afraid of something tragic happening. She's asked for my advice. I don't know what to tell her.Are there any ladies out there in her boat with the same circumstances? IF so I need some help in this case.

My fiance and I just moved to another state and I wont start working until after the wedding (Feb 9th)

All my girlfriends and family are in another state, and I am so bored and lonely! Im used to working full time plus school full time, and now I am completely isolated. He is working a lot and I am losing motivation when it comes to wedding planning, house stuff, etc, and I feel so depressed!

I want to enjoy this time for us but it is so difficult as no one is here to share it with me. I just feel like we should be so happy but instead the combination of all these factors is making us bicker with eachother, and I have no one here to help me plan or enjoy the process...ahh! Sorry i am venting but I am on here all the time and you girls always seem to have such good answers....plus I just need to get this out because I am majorly frustrated.

Specifically I do not mean violent men or men who commit obvious crimes and break the law as such. What I mean is men who have a sinister side.

Take me for example... I have no criminal record and have never physically hurt anyone in my life but I have plans to one day conquer the world! and be your supreme ruler of planet Earth!

Does this sort of thing turn you ladies on?

The man slowly looked up. This was a woman clearly accustomed to the finer
things of life. Her coat was new. She looked like that she had never missed
a meal in her life. His first thought was that she wanted to make fun of
him, like so many others had done before.

"Leave me alone," he growled.
To his amazement, the woman continued standing. She was smiling -- her even
white teeth displayed in dazzling rows.
"Are you hungry?" she asked.
"No," he answered sarcastically. "I've just come from dining with the
president. Now go away." The woman's smile became even broader. Suddenly the
man felt a gentle hand under his arm.
"What are you doing, lady?" the man asked angrily. "I said to leave me
alone.
Just then a policeman came up. "Is there any problem, ma'am?" he asked.
"No problem here, officer," the woman answered. "I'm just trying to get this
man to his feet. Will you help me?"
The officer scratched his head. "That's old Jack. He's been a fixture around
here for a couple of years. What do you want with him?"
"See that cafeteria over there?" she asked. "I'm going to get him something
to eat and get him out of the cold for awhile."
"Are you crazy, lady?" the homeless man resisted. "I don't want to go in
there!" Then he felt strong hands grab his other arm and lift him up.
"Let me go, officer. I didn't do anything."

"This is a good deal for you, Jack," the officer answered. "Don't blow it."

Finally, and with some difficulty, the woman and the police officer got Jack
into the cafeteria and sat him at a table in a remote corner. It was the
middle of the morning, so most of the breakfast crowd had already left and
the lunch bunch had not yet arrived. The manager strode across the cafeteria
and stood by his table.

"What's going on here, officer?" he asked. "What is all this. Is this man in
trouble?"

"This lady brought this man in here to be fed," the policeman answered.

"Not in here!" the manager replied angrily. "Having a person like that here
is bad for business."

Old Jack smiled a toothless grin. "See, lady. I told you so. Now if you'll
let me go. I didn't want to come here in the first place."

The woman turned to the cafeteria manager and smiled. "Sir, are you familiar
with Eddy and Associates, the banking firm down the street?"
"Of course I am," the manager answered impatiently. "They hold their weekly
meetings in one of my banquet rooms."

"And do you make a goodly amount of money providing food at these weekly
meetings?"

"What business is that of yours?"

"I, sir, am Penelope Eddy, president and CEO of the company."

"Oh."

The woman smiled again. "I thought that might make a difference." She
glanced at the cop who was busy stifling a giggle. "Would you like to join
us in a cup of coffee and a meal, officer?"

"No thanks, ma'am," the officer replied. "I'm on duty."

"Then, perhaps, a cup of coffee to go?"

"Yes, ma'am. That would be very nice."

The cafeteria manager turned on his heel "I'll get your coffee for you right
away, officer."
The officer watched him walk away. "You certainly put him in his place," he
said.

"That was not my intent. Believe it or not, I have a reason for all this."

She sat down at the table across from her amazed dinner guest She stared at
him intently. "Jack, do you remember me?"

Old Jack searched her face with his old , rheumy eyes "I think so -- I mean
you do look familiar."

"I'm a little older perhaps," she said. "Maybe I've even filled out more
than in my younger days when you worked here, and I came through that very
door, cold and hungry."

"Ma'am?" the officer said questioningly. He couldn't believe that such a
magnificently turned out woman could ever have been hungry.
"I was just out of college," the woman began. "I had come to the city
looking for a job, but I couldn't find anything. Finally I was down to my
last few cents and had been kicked out of my apartment. I walked the streets
for days. It was February and I was cold and nearly starving. I saw this
place and walked in on the off chance that I could get something to eat."

Jack lit up with a smile. "Now I remember," he said. "I was behind the
serving counter. You came up and asked me if you could work for something to
eat. I said that it was against company policy."

"I know," the woman continued. "Then you made me the biggest roast beef
sandwich that I had ever seen, gave me a cup of coffee, and told me to go
over to a corner table and enjoy it. I was afraid that you would get into
trouble. Then, when I looked over, I saw you put the price of my food in the
cash register I knew then that everything would be all right."
"So you started your own business?" Old Jack said.

"I got a job that very afternoon. I worked my way up. Eventually I started
my own business, that, with the help of God, prospered." She opened her
purse and pulled out a business card. "When you are finished here, I want
you to pay a visit to a Mr. Lyons. He's the personnel director of my
company. I'll go talk to him now and I'm certain he'll find something for
you to do around the office." She smiled. "I think he might even find the
funds to give you a little advance so that you can buy some clothes and get
a place to live until you get on your feet. If you ever need anything, my
door is always opened to you."
There were tears in the old man's eyes. "How can I ever thank you? " he
said.

"Don't thank me," the woman answered. "To God goes the glory. Thank Jesus.
He led me to you."

Outside the cafeteria, the officer and the woman paused at the entrance
before going their separate ways. "Thank you for all your help, officer,"
she said.
"On the contrary, Ms. Eddy," he answered. "Thank you. I saw a miracle today,
something that I will never forget. And...And thank you for the coffee."

If you have missed knowing me, you have missed nothing.
If you have missed some of my emails, you might have missed a laugh.
But, if you have missed knowing my LORD and SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST, you have
missed everything in the world.

And do you do the same in your everyday life?

I was just curious because I was reading several responses at the Knot ripping a girl to shreds for wanting to have a dessert reception at 8pm and everyone was telling her that people expect to be fed a full meal at a wedding no matter what time it is, morning, afternoon, or evening, even if they would never do so any other day of the year.

Personally that didn't make sense to me and I have never seen it done. I can understand a full meal at a regular meal time but not at the in-between or after-dinner times.

She says they need time to talk about "girl stuff." I figure that time would be best spent shopping, or lunch, or coffee or whatever. My gf thinks im controlling. But when she goes to rhode island for the weekend with her friend to a wedding, the two of them go out to a bar with a bunch of guys after, and bring them back to the hotel bar after. Then she doesnt answer her phone. One guy called her one night from one of her "girls nites," and she said it was an old friend she ran into. She said he used to hang around with her girlfriends a while ago. I catch her in lies all the time. And she says "My friends say I lie because i have to, because you are too controlling." I think I don't like "girls nite" at bars, because besides the above, she has a drinking problem, where she can't even walk when she leaves the bar. Who the hell knows. Am i controlling? And if so, should i not be? Should i dump her?

Why is it that almost all women think that strippers are dirty, skanky, whores? Just because they work showing their magnificent bodies, ( not all of them ) they must instantly be "dirty" disease ridden tramps? There are many decent girls out there doing what they can to make insane amounts of money. If you habve ever talked to them or dated one or hung out with them outside of work they are great people. and some pretty genuine friends. Is it jealousy or what?

He's EXACTLY my type... Not too tall or short, curlllly beauttifulllll dark brown-blonde curls, fit but not too thin, and he's standing about 10 feet to my left, talking to a teacher right now. Hopefully we're going to be in the school musical together soon, so i'll be around him more.

He is such a sweetie. I may not talk to him myself but i'm in another club with him, and I get to see him just acting normally all the time, being casual and enjoying himself~ I can't wait to be in the play with him~

How do I let him know I like him?

Women want to be treated equal until you catch one sleeping around with a lot of guys then they tell you it's because they are trying to figure out who they are. How come if I dated a girl and cheated on her I would be an asshole and everyone would look down on me? When a woman sleeps around or gets drunk every night or cheats on her boyfriend. It's ok because she's just trying to figure out who she is in this world and we shouldn't be mad at her. Does being a women relieve you of thought and responsibility?

I have a 3 month old son and I'm going through Postpardum depression. My husband and I moved here before we got married about 2 years ago, we're about an hour and a half away from my family and friends. when we first moved here, I was working and had lots of interaction with people. We finally got into a church and my husband loves it. Its really rare for him to feel at home in a church, he's extreemly picky. Now that our son is here and I'm a stay at home mom, I'm extreemly lonely. I only have 2 friends, one of which isnt really a friend, just someone I used to know, and then theres lara who aslo has a 4 month old son, but she recently went back to work, leaving her son with her mother in law. So there is NO time for us to hang out. I want to move back home near my family-who isnt exactly the kind of influence I want my son to be around. But I have friends there, his mom & dad are there. But he sees it as failure, that we couldnt make it in the city, says that he wont go to church.
