Say, has anyone out there had an emotional investment in a relationship in which they thought the other person was The One... By this I mean never (or seldom) an arguement and you are seemingly PERFECT in every aspect... Then you find out that this person is either on a completely different page than they are regarding marriage, they are dating you but seem to be still looking for the BBD (Bigger, Better Deal) or they do something that just screams, "I'm not as serious as you are?" It might be that they pulled a fu*k azz stunt or you caught them in a lie or anything at all. Then you realize you made a grave mistake. Your opinion of relationships in general is shattered. Stories?

I dated this girl for 5 years. We broke up because she "wanted to see who she was by herself" its a long story. She supposivly moved on and now has a new boyfriend. I moved on in the sense that i want nothing to do with her. She calls me once a week at least. Sometimes she "misses me". Sometimes she thinks she'll "never have a guy like me" but she says she dosnt still like me or anything and its just cause she wants me as a good friend. I dont care like i said earlier i really dont want anything to do with her, but im gonna be nice to her nonetheless. She asked me to go to Chicago with her for the night on sunday because she dosnt want to go by herself. I'm gonna go with her. I know this might be kind of weird but im not sure if its a big mistake or what. Also what do you think her intentions are? I'm really not sure about this girl anymore. anyone got advice? or anything to say that could help me?

It is a fact that my boyfriend is smart. Very smart. We're both in college and he has never dipped below a 4.0. Right now he is struggling in deciding what to do with his life (because he has so many choices) I'm an average student who tries my very best. I'm trying to decide what I want to do with my life with what I CAN do.
My boyfriend has never mentioned this different between us out loud exactly. But I know he knows. Quite often we will be talking and he'll bring up a topic I do not know or say something I do not understand.I feel like an idiot because he like thought provoking conversations and too often I have nothing to offer. I like to talk about other topics in order to get to know each other better, and he usually says he would rather talk about something that is more thought provoking.

Should I sit down and talk to him about this? It is the only insecurity I have in our relationship. In my mind, I feel he will eventually get bored with me and leave me. What should I do?

From my brother-in-law:

My wife has had some mental health issues arise recently due to the onset of severe depression, and she tried twice to take her own life with pills. My wife is now on medication to battle her depression and attends several counseling sessions with various professionals each week.

My mother in law is convinced that my wife's condition is all my fault. She has never approved of me or the way I chose to do things regarding my family. She has tried many times to convince my wife to leave me over any small arguement but my wife always makes the choice to stay.

On my wife's latest visit with her counselor, we were told that her mother had called the counselor and voiced concerns about our relationship, in what I am certain is another attempt to go through others to interfere in my marriage.

Has she overstepped her bounds in not asking at least my wife's permission to speak with her councelor? I don't think my wife needs this. How should I handle this?

I'm not the dream type of girl every guy wants, blond hair and blue eyes. I hate how I look, my face and my *** are flat and my eyes are always black and blue(i no surgery won't fix that). I get teased all the time about how I look. Now that I'm brain washed so bad thinking I'm ugly and seeing that I am, I want to get plastic surgery to have my needs to feel better about myself. Also the hair on my back, I hate it so much. My body ruined my life so much, it's a nightmare I'm living. My boyfriend saids "You're the most beautiful girl in the world." then he checks other girls out, and it makes me feel I'm not as beautiful as he saids I am. I'm not getting it done for anyone else, I just want to be pretty. I know looks won't get you far but i just feel really ugly and it's really sad. I just want to be happy.

My boyfriend works 80 hrs/wk and I work 40 hrs/wk plus I am taking 16 hours of classes. We are both super busy but try to see each other as much as we can (pretty much every night) he is usually really romantic and Tuesday night he told me "I am going to love you forever." But the wknd before last he said he would call me and he didn't call me because he got off at 1:00 in the morning and was really tired. Then the following wknd he said the same thing and he left early but he didn't have his car and said his brother never came and his friend had to take him home. Then last night he said he would call and come by after I left work and he didn't come because a guy that sold him his car said he was going to take his car away if he didn't pay for his plates to be changed. My dog died today and I was really upset and I blew up at him. I told him that I was tired of him saying he would call and then he doesn't. He is really tired a lot and I'm usually understanding but today I had it

Suppose your spouse belittled your child, spent the family money in bars and stip clubs, blamed his actions on you and basically ran your life into the ditch with repeated acts of selfishness and irresponsibility for ten years (with periods of stability in-between the crisis episodes).

Suppose he then woke up one day and felt great remorse, realizing all the damage he had caused and time he had wasted. Suppose he moved out and and was determined to change his behavior, but only after almost physicallly injuring your child while in a rage.

If he went to counseling while you were separated...and seemed to have learned effective ways of handling life, would you take the risk of rejoining the family? How would you know he had changed for real? If you decided to leave him even after all the work he had done to turn things around, would that be immoral?

i got married a year ago. i really dont know how to say things without making it sound really bad. we get along well but there are a few things that really bugs me — in march i caught him texting his ex to tell him he loves her. we havent had sex for 5 months. im pretty good at my job but he tells everyone its not a serious career. im confused bec the day to day is fine then he pulls these stunts that are really hurtful. i am a really loving person but lately, i dont even care if he doesnt sleep in the same bed as me. how do i pull myself out of this rut? is there any advice to give me aside from that i should leave him? :'(
