This wish list on Newegg has been ever changing. But I think I have finally compiled the list of components I want. Take a look and tell me what you think. Am I splurging too much on one part and not enough on another? Any known issues on any of them? Any recommendations or opinions are appreciated.

I keep getting the low virtual memory message. I changed my settings, but I really don't know what I'm doing.

Someone just installed windows 2000 on my computer this weekend. It actually says that I have 65,000 kb of RAM....can that be right? What should I change my virtual mem settings to so that I can stop getting the messages and so that I stop getting freezes?
Thank you.

I am still having power problems. I replaced my PS and it didn't work. I then replaced my modo and cpu and it still doesn't work. No power, no nothing. But, my backup APC is showing power and everything else that is plugged into the APC is working. Just not the computer. My laptop works off the APC. My cell phone charges up while plugged in. Everything else works. No power to the computer. I even plugged it in the wall socket and it still doesn't work. I'm thinking very seriously about building a completely new system. ??????????

how many years? My only concern is with geting is that it's speed is 2.40GHZ so 3 years down the road will the requirment be a processor thats 3.0+ its only 100.00 more to get the one with the quad 6600 vs the AMD 6000. So If I did get a quad 6600 would it be future proof?

It seems like the family computer kills power supplies for fun....back in june there was a thunderstorm and the power went off ( it wasnt plugged into a surge protector at the time). It worked fine for about 3 hours until i opened it up and added a gig of RAM. I plugged it back in and it didnt work. I figured out the power supply was dead and i had to buy a new one.

Aroudn that same time i was workin on the computer im using right now(A great machine btw). So i fixed the other one and put it in the living room. Now a day ago my sisters said the computer was running really really slow. It was completley infested with viruses (Trojans, Worms, Spyware, Adware, Malware) everything....I tried using virus scanners and deleting everything manually but they just kept coming back.

I decided to just do a complete system restore and everything went fine. Until I i opened it up to remove the PCi adapter card. I closed it up and plugged it in. It started up and worked fine.

I got all my drivers back up (to my knowledge) and even tried installing the drivers to what i believe my sound device to be. It's an integrated Realtek sound card for a SiS 755-A2 motherboard. I've tried everything. It does not even show up in the device manager. Just codecs.

Sometime ago my PC encountered a problem & I had to erase my Windows XP...
My configuration are as follows:
RAM: 1 GB
AGP: 128 MB
Motherboard: Intel D865 PERL
Hard disk: 80 GB
& internally:
Number of drives :7
C: Win 98
D: Win XP
E: Music
F: Software
G: Game 1
H: Game 2
So, in order to fix it I reformatted D: drive & installed Win XP..
Everything was working ok & then I thought I had to repartition the drives for a special reason so I thought of erase G: & H:
to make 1 big drive but something terrible happened.
I tried to repartition them using a Win Vista installer & when I went to delete my G: It also wiped out my C:, D:, E:, H: (leaving just my software drive (F:) normal...
After that I tried re-installing Win XP by recreating partitions & setting them all up but when setup takes place & installs content on a drive to run actual setup, it doesn't work after that.
The PC reboots & an error comes up saying MISSING NDIF FILE or something...

I need a computer that can handle Game Design & Programming, but I don't know what hardware the computer should have regarding HD space, memory, processor speed, video & sound cards? Also, what brand name should I trust? Overall, I'm wondering what brands & hard ware would best suit my needs. I saw an HP Pavillion Media Center Desktop (Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q6600, 3 GB RAM, 640 GB Hard Drive) for just under $1200 (on Amazon). I'm not sure if this is overkill or if the Quad Processor fits my needs - or will a Dual Core will be enough - I don't want something that'll cause delays as I try to test games I design & my husband feels a HD with 250 GB's is more than enough. Any help? I refuse to use Dell's, I've had terrible experiences w/them. I am on a budget, which makes a package system that's upgradable seems the best route to me. I'd like it to last for at least three years without dying on me. Advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I can purchase a 3ghz Dual Core Pentium D cpu for less than $100.00, but a Intel Core 2 Duo cpu costs over $300.00. What makes them so much higher? Would a 3ghz Dual Core Pentium D processor be an improvement on my 3ghz Intel Pentium4 processor?
