I keep getting the low virtual memory message. I changed my settings, but I really don't know what I'm doing.

Someone just installed windows 2000 on my computer this weekend. It actually says that I have 65,000 kb of RAM....can that be right? What should I change my virtual mem settings to so that I can stop getting the messages and so that I stop getting freezes?
Thank you.

65000kb = 64 mb ram. Yes this is correct.
I would recommend upgrading your ram.

If you wish to correct this problem.
Open the control panel.
Open System Icon
Advanced Tab
Performance > Advanced
Advanced Tab
Virtual Memory > Change
System Managed size SET
OK
OK
OK
RESTART COMPUTER

virtual memory has to do with your hard drive space. Windows creates a RAM file (pagefile) on your hard drive when it runs low on system RAM. 64K of RAM is very low. You need to increase your system memory or get a larger hard drive. RAm would be better. Virual memory is set at 1.5 times the amount of installed RAM (64)

yes u need to increase your virtual memory. i don't think there is anything you can buy to do this however i am not positive. the best thing i can recommend is to clean up your drive. ok the first thing to do is to u need to delete your temporary files and make sure your recylcing bin is empty. if u have any downloading programs such as limewire they will have folders with all your previous downloads in them and u need to clean them out. the next thing you can do is to defrag the hard drive. after you do all that if you are still getting the message then you need to remove stuff from your hard drive. you could move them to the new memory you got or you can delete things.

it means that you're hard drive is getting full. and in doing so is taking up some of the space used for the virtual memory...

clear out some of the old files you don't want or need... save them to a blank cd rom...

windows uses some of you're hard drive space for memory so that your computer will run faster.. window normally sets it's own size for virtual memory on your hard drive you don't need to set it your self

do what the guy said up there. Virtual memory uses memory off of your hard drive. nothing big, isn't that fast, but it will improve your performance. I recommend setting it at 1500 megabytes for your computer. That is 1.5 Gigabytes
