a whole system. yea you probly wont get a good one. unless you are building one urself. Still with $500 probly wont cut it for videogames today. a nice board will cost atleast $100+, a decent processor depending on who you go to is probly about $60-300. Case can be cheap, but if your looking for looks its probly around $30-150. Enough said if you plan to make your own from that $500 goto www.pricewatch.com. If you want one thats already built then yea I would try Dell, like the last person said.

In short, you're not going to get a good desktop for under $500. Check Dell.com if you're desperate.

depend what you are gonna use it for

this one is great for your budget. 1.8GHZ 64-bit dual-core(dont get fooled by the number, its much faster than P4 3.0 GHZ), 320Gb SATA HD, 2GB ddr2 533 ram. vista pre-installed. DVD+/-RW 16x Multi-Format Dual Layer Optical Drive, powerful enough for gaming if you get a better video card.
its the best one so far for your budget. the video card may be bad, but you can upgrade it later when you have the money. again, this PC is powerful enough for gaming if you upgrade a better video card.
it's a good start for a gaming machine. get it fast before they sold out. with only $450, a brand new machine, you cant get that great deal from any retail store.

Dell is OK but they will spend alot of time trying to sucker you into a higher priced bundle.
I found that the emachines are a good bang for your buck Best Buy sells em.
