its a matter of preference and price. Can't go wrong with Intel, but it will cost a bit more than the AMD. Either one will do exactly what you want to do from basic usage to gaming. Just make sure you get the right power and performance in the processor for what you are trying to do with the machine.

I'd go with AMD, mostly because I'm an AMD fanboy, but they're also much cheaper than Intels. I was actually talking to someone else who built a computer that was geared completely to work with an Intel and I built mine completely to work with an AMD (ATI video card, correct RAM, all that) and my system almost matches his in power, but mine cost half of what he paid. The biggest difference between his computer and my computer is he has twice the RAM. The point that I'm trying to make is you can make a computer that is just as good as an Intel computer for a fraction of the price if you go with an AMD.

Neither is better. They are both good CPU's that do a decent job. You'll probably be more interested in picking a CPU that gives you a good performance for the price. In the AMD world, I'd go with something like a 4600+ X2.
A few good websites for checking out performance data are www.anandtech.com, www.tomshardware.com

both are basically the same. AMD are usually cheaper, and a bit less accurate with their speeds (mines is a new 64 2x 1.9 ghtz, but it runs at 1.8 usually) AMD also has the new quad cores which are really expensive but insainly fast.
Intel is a bit more reliable ( I would say it works better with windows them the AMDs do but they are usualy 50-100 more over the amd of the same speed (sometimes depends on teh sales too)

If you're worried about price, go with AMD, if you want super high preformance, try and snag a quad core Intel Xeon running at 3.0 ghz. Of course you'll have to buy the appropriate mother board for each processor.

This question has been asked dozens of times and you will get the same questions/answers back. It really depends on the applications. If you are a gamer, use the AMD which runs cooler and seems to run games faster. If you are using it for email, and/or business applications, use the Intel.
Good luck,
Z

depends what you want the pc for... depends on your budget
if your budget is limited go with amd its a very good all around cpu
if your interested in gaming and your budget allows for it get the intel core2duo...
either way... make sure you get good performance memory.. use the highest possible mhz with the lowest possible timing (i prefer crucial ballistic x tracer 4-4-4-12-1t ddr800)
^^ good memory makes all the difference in the world

AMD is cheaper and faster for what you get. I've never had a reliability issue either.
