connect our camera and download pictures. This last Christmas, I also started using it to upload songs onto my IPOD, and my kids have been using it since then for their MP3 players as well. 5 months ago, I was given a new Kodak digital, and started downloading those pics also. Last month, I brought home 2 memory sticks from work- one is a Memorex Traveldrive, and the other is a Staples Relay drive. At first, the Relay drive worked, but now when I try to use either of those in the ports, it shuts the computer down with no error message. Can someone please tell me why this is happening? Our computer is about 3 years old.

I just ran the CPUID program to find out that my RAM is running at 166 MHz. Isn't this a little slow? I thought they ran at 400- 533 MHz. I was looking for the speed so I know what new RAM to buy. I think I should get PC 2700 according to what my computer can take. Can anyone enlighten me as to why it is running so slow or what it means?

I see other questions similar to this in this forum. The consensus is to right click My Compter and pick properties. This does not help me however. It states 2.40 GHz. I need to know what type of RAM to get my computer. I have narrowed it down to either 400 MHz or 533 MHz. It is a Dell Dimension 4550. Even the Dell website can not nail it down for me. I think I need DDR 266 PC 2700 RAM, but another option is DDR 333 PC 2700. Please help.

I have a Dell XPS, a gaming computer and a everyday Hi-Grade home PC. Anyway, the speakers for the normal comp broke. The gaming computer doesn't currently have access to the internet, we are getting wireless in the week. I tried to connect the dell speakers to the normal comp, but they`re very odd. The dell speaker is a large black box, with a dial for changing bass, it has five slots, four for left and right speakers, and a large plug for the center speaker, which has a dial for changing volume. I have no idea how to plug it into my normal comp, I did it about a year ago, but put the speakers back into the dell. None of the plugs seem to fit, but I've made uit work before. Please help, because when something is explained on a video with audio- I can't hear it and it's really annoying.

THANKS!

I have a new computer with Asus P5KSE motherboard, Core2Duo E6600 processor and 2 SATA drives. When I try to install vista home basic 32 I see both drives and I create a primary partition on each drive. When I select next it tells me that there are the install program cannot find a suitable drive to install windows on.

I have tried to format and that doesn't seem to make a difference. The formatting doesn't show a progress bar. Should it?

Do I need to install drivers for the SATA drives to be recognized by vista? The BIOS sees both drives. But the boot priority only sees one. What's with that?

Any help here is appreciated.
Thanks

here is the storie. i got a sata hard drive 250 gig. i then discovered that it needed a card to inerface with MY computer. i got a sata card that accepts 2 sata drives. i guess they copie one another. well i put the win 98 disk into the cd drive and it started to format the sata drive. it then went into theinstallation mode and copied the first set of files onto the sata drive. then it rebooted and when it came back on it displayed the win 98 logo and that is all, nothing further and it acts like the computer is locked up, no keboard action works.
i will put xp pro on it as soon as i get win98 to boot up completely. i don't have the xp boot cd at this time only the upgrade. don't want to go out and get a new mother board or computer for this if i don't have to i will just get a different drive. again thanks.

I was reading through my local computer store's flyer, and there was a little tidbit of information about how to build a good gaming computer and it said I should get 4GB of RAM and a quad-core processor. I know you need a lot of ram and a good processor, but quad core? 4GB? How true is this?

Does anybody have a clue to this power situation?

My home computer will no longer power up. I thought that it might be the power supply, but now that is not the case. When I built my home network, I built it with a NZXT Nemesis case powered by a 400w Orion power supply. I have a MSI K8N Neo4 Mobo (G52-M7125X2) with a AMD Athlon 64/FX 3200 CPU. The only thing that I've added recently was a new Microsoft Blue optical mouse.

This past wednesday, my system shut down completely. I suspected the power supply when I couldn't power it back up. Ordered a new one from Newegg (Coolermaster 430w) and it will come on for about a 1/4 second and then automatically shut down again. I've checked my back-up power supply, my home, my attachments, and everything else. But all is working fine. I am at a lost to what to do next. Other than completely rebuilding my home network and that is a possibility.

I can use it to create & read DVD data files for back up, but when a movie DVD is inserted I cannot get any player, including Windows Media Player to respond to it. I presumably have lost a driver/codex or whatever, but do not know how to identify what driver might be missing, where to get a replacement and where to put it on my hard drive! Dell PC with Windows XP Pro using Roxio Easy Media Creator 8 & have Dell drivers disc and original Roxio disc
