Hey i got 2gb of memory and expandable to 4gb and just put in Vista... ANd the computer has been running slower. I might have bad memory and going to run a test in a little bit. My question is: if i have bad memory is it better to replace the bad memory or would it be better just to add 2gb of memory along with the bad memory?

2 weeks ago I installed a midi controller to my PC. As I was installing it my computer froze and I had to restart it as it was the only option I had.

When I restarted the PC the fan kept spinning and nothing happended. So I rebooted it again and the computer didn't start at all !! After waiting for about 10 minutes and I started the computer again. But this time just as the XP logo came up on the monitor at startup I got a blue screen which said "Hardware Malfunction, Contact hardware vendor ".
From them every time I started the computer I got the same message and PC restarts itself.
Now my computer won't start at all. I have even replaced the power supply. But nothing happens when I turn on the computer.
Can someone please help. Thanks

I recently got a computer at a yard sale, but it doesn't have a hard drive. I was planning on getting one and installing windows xp on it, and I need to know what hardware the computer has. Like, what kind of video card, sound card, processer, display driver(like, mine has an intel 845g...that kind). But how do I find that out?

i had a nasty pop-up problem earlier but it has subsided for now. however, my antivirus expires in a week and i don't want to renew it for another year. is 3 years too short to keep a computer? i'm looking to buy a laptop during the holiday season. how often should computers be replaced? i don't use for anything special...just word processing, web surfing, and downloading music and such. i'm not a gamer or some media buff that needs the best stuff. what do you guys think?

Hello I just bought a Hanns-g JW199D 19" / AMD 64 Athlon x2. I have a cable that says DVI (white cable) and one that says VGA (blue cable). I didn't get a manual with my computer and I'm not use to these new type of computers so I'm not sure whats going on..

But my question is, when I plug in the VGA cable to the monitor and computer , the computer does not start and the monitor says " No signal input check video cable." And I don't know where to put the DVI cable because there is no connection on the back of the computer (not the monitor.) Can some one please help me with this?

( I would appreciate a answer maybe in a couple hours, because I really need this computer to start working. I have an online business and I need a quick response.)

I work with some old workstations and they use ISA slots
a couple of them do have PCI slots too, but unused
only ISA cards are used and quite a few at that, hence all have riser cards > as the number of cards is greater than the slots available on mo-board

Saw a question sometime back,
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070912121914AAOwZqf&r=w&pa=AptqD2bwHTHf5.GGYqA.vrAfb.MdYjL9iWgQDs_F28Dv1A--&paid=voted

i was pretty much tempted to answer that
but suggesting riser cards, but then saw the heavy-weights answer otherwise ... saved me the blushes, lol

now if ISA riser cards possible, why not PCI

I play a lot of virtual games like Sims, and Toontown Online, etc.

Our computer crashed about two months ago, and Dell told us that we had a virus. It was so bad, that we had wipe out the whole computer, and start all over as if we just bought it.

Ever since then, we haven't been able to play any games like the Sims... It says we need a display driver, and DirectX 9.0.
Dell.com has a feature where you can download everything you need that was already installed on your computer when you first bought it. So I tried downloading the display driver, (and basically every other file that dell provided) and NONE of the files will download. It keeps giving me errors saying that we don't have the right drivers to download them... but we should since those were installed before..

Any one computer savvy out there that can help?

I have an old desktop PC that presently has 2 sticks of 128MB of RAM. There is one extra slot for RAM. I still have the motherboard manual that says that each slot can run a maximum of 128MB in each socket. My question is, can I run a higher than 128MB of memory in each slot? I would like to have a total of 1GB, if possible, but afraid to buy that much if it will not work. These are PCI133, 168 pin sticks.

Specs:
EVGA 680i motherboard T1 version
Intel E6850 3.0Ghz proc, stock fan
2 Gb OCZ PC2 9600 1200 Mhz memory
XFX 8800 Ultra graphics card
Ultra X3 1000w PSU
Seagate 500 Gb sata 3g HD
Sony DVD burner 20x

The Problem:
Just built the computer about 3 days ago, everything booted fine and installed windows without a problem. Shut it down today to move to another room, and set it back up. Attempted to boot, but all that happened was the power light on the tower flash and the fans spin for a second. Took everyting out inspect connections and reinstalled. Boot it up and it worked, watched the system monitor to make sure nothing was overheating and left for a couple minutes. When I came back the computer was off and exhibiting the same behavior as before. After I press the power button and the lights flash all I can see on the motherboard is the blue and orange LED's lit.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank You

They are both socket 478 Pentium 4. The reason I'm asking is because last time i tried to upgrade a PC i wanted to go from 700MHz to 1.2 or 1.4GHz and it didn't work (guessing my motherboard didnt support that speed.

The computer is a HP Pavilion 9720. The motherboard is the stock one.
