Most computer users have been trained that if you want more speed for your computer, then add more memory. Well, this is true, in certain circumstances. But for most of the times, it really is just bad files in your registry files. Corrupted or missing registry files can make your computer too slow.
The registry is a main part of your computer's Operating System. With time, as you use Windows and install and uninstall programs, your registry will get congested and full of errors. So your computer could slow down. So, if you can clean it up this problem can be solved.Sometimes you can speed computer up by 300%. To clean up registry,You can download a software called regsitry cleaner---Clean registry, remnant, corrupt files and temp files,history,cookies,etc.. This site:
http://www.make-pc-fast.info/index.php?t=makepcf
lists top 5 registry cleaner, you can download and scan for free.
Good luck!

Well, it depends. For most applications you may not notice any difference at all. More RAM really pays off when you have a demanding application (like some high-end games) running on the machine. Multiple factors affect your computers overall speed (hard drive speed, your video card, motherboard bus speed, etc.) so it isn't fair to expect a whole lot from just a RAM upgrade.
By all means, upgrade it...it certainly won't hurt your machine's performance any. You may notice a difference, and you may not. In reality you would need to post just about every specification of your entire machine for someone to be able to assess which upgrade would do you the most good.

Adding more ram will help a little. It wills help when open a lot programs but this really has to deal with how many mb of ram you have now. IF you're running 128 upgrading to 512 is going to be a big deal
If you're running 1gb putting in another gig would only help a little. New processor will help the most for speed. But then again if you're talking games all your speed comes from your video card.

The CPU or processor is the brain that makes the calculations in relation to your input. The Ram is the memory that the computer uses to hold data in a "ready for use" state so that the computer doesn't have to go out looking for it. A faster processor will help with the speed, but a fast processor with inadequate RAM will still be sluggish. You will need to identify what ram will fit your unit, as well as what its capacity is and then buy as much as you can afford.

If you use many applications that need a lot of memory to run, yes, your computer will run faster. But, if you are just browsing on the Internet, and using a Messenger, it won't make much difference.

Imagine RAM as your workspace, CPU is the one doing the work. The faster your CPU is, the faster it can do the work, which translate to better performance. simple as that
Now to RAM, when you runs out of work space, you have to take out processes that is not running and put it in your hard disk temporarily, and take in processes that is ready to run. When that process at your hard disk is needed, you have to take it back in, and take some other processes that is not ready to run and put them on the hard disk.
This is call file swapping.
It really depends on your application. but in gaming, here's the sign you can look for. if the game is slow, having low fps (frames per second), its a sign of slow graphic card and CPU. If you games stutters (constantly pause for a split second), that means you're out of ram.
Stuttering is cause by file swapping, where everything pause while your system swap processes in and out. Low FPS means your system simply is not fast enough to render the frams.
For other application such as Adobe Photoshop, video editor, they require lots of ram. But video and audio encoding requires lots of CPU.
Hit alt clrt delete and monitor your system ram, you can tell if you're running out of ram or your CPU is 100% all the time and everythng slows down.
