Hello, would it be wise to buy 4 gigs (4 x 1 gib PC6400 800mhz) of memory for my xp home system? I know xp can only run 3 or 3.5 gigs of ram, but I plan on upgrading to vista home premium within 4-5 months, would it cause any problems or slow me down because of a dual channel problem?

Basically I am asking if it is ok to install 4 x 1 gig chips in my computer and let 1 of them just sit there for a few months until I upgrade to vista which can run all 4 gigs without any problems.

Thanks for input.

I have an hp pavillion 7920. It is a 900 megahertz Intel Celeron processor but it runs really slow. It currently has 2 strips of sdram 128megs memory. I decided to try to upgrade the memory. The motherboard is a Trigem Computer, Inc. Cognac board with two memory slots. The manual specs say that it has a max memory upgrade of 512, pc100 strips, divided between the two slots. I went out and bought two strips of pc100, 256 meg sdram strips, put them in the computer and it didnt work. So, I examined the strips that I took out of the computer and they are pc133. The manual says the motherboard needs pc100. I dont understand why the pc100 strips I bought dont work, but the system is running on pc133. I am running windows xp pro operating system, and I just want to get my system to run faster. the current 256 megs of ram just dont get the job done. any advice? thanks everyone

If I had a motherboard that supports ddr2 and ddr3, can I have both at the same time? Like if the mainboard supports 4GB, can I have 2GB ddr2(at present) and another 2GB ddr3(in the future if i upgrade) on the same mainboard such that my computer runs fine?

When I boot my computer, I get a repeating POST beep. It's just one beep over and over again. If I remove my videocard there will be no beeping, but I can't get video with the onboard video card.

Is it normal for my iMac G5 to constantly have the fan blowing loudly? It's one-and-a-half years old and I'm not sure if this loud fan blowing is something new or if I just never really noticed it before.

Due to computer problems and upgrading, about the only thing I need to build a second system is a case. This would be for mass storage, back up, etc. And doesn't have to be state of the art to set the world on fire.

The only thing I need is a case which a local computer store said usually runs about 12 bucks. Then the operating system. I run XP on my system but I don't think I can install that on a system system for more than 30 days. I can install Win98 or ME.

Is it true that when you buy the XP you can only put it on one computer you own? And, if the answer is yes, I've heard that Win98 is more stable than ME. I'm thinking just for basic use, mass storage, etc. Either 98 or ME would be acceptable. Comments? Suggestions?

I bought a barebones PC from a no name company about 5 years ago and the noise made it impossible to use the computer for anything besides gaming with the volume turned up high to block the noise.

I'm looking into getting a new PC this Christmas and want to get the new Phenom processor. One of the concerns I have is that almost every review I read of the high end gaming computers says that with the additional power comes additional heat and that they're very loud.

Would a water cooled system always be quieter than an air cooled one? How are you supposed to evaluate ahead of time how quiet a system is before you buy it?

My university is selling the computers used in their computer labs as described above. The price is for the complete package-monitor, mouse, keyboard, cpu and speakers. I know nothing about computers technically speaking. Would this be a decent system to have mainly I would just use it to surf, play online games and download music. Also it would come installed with SuSe Linux operating system. Is that comparable to Windows?

Hi, I’m a Mac. And I’m a PC.

Hey PC, what are you doing tonight?

Well, I’m having the latest version of Microsoft Office installed, a fancy new printer hooked up and I’m going to play a whole bunch of games. How about you, Mac?

Erm... well I cost nearly twice as much as you, so now my owner can’t afford any of that stuff sooooo.... I’m just going to browse the net and check email.
