Both are very good - for current games there probably is not a big difference, BUT future games in the next few years will better utilize multiple cores, giving the Quad core a potentially 'longer lifespan', than the Core 2 Duo.

The CPU or processors speed has very little effect on performance in games. You should better invest in a graphics card for better visuals in games. If you want a processor, then i insist on going for core 2 duo e6420 or e6600. Pentium D processors have heating problems and many programs have not been created for quad core. AMD processors have been thrashed by core 2 duo's performance so don't get attracted by their cheap prices. Opt for nvidia 8 series graphics cards for greater graphics.

actually those kind of processors are not good for gaming! AMD athlon or AMD sempron are the one who is good for gaming..but if you ask me i prefer intel quad core
