Both are very good - for current games there probably is not a big difference, BUT future games in the next few years will better utilize multiple cores, giving the Quad core a potentially 'longer lifespan', than the Core 2 Duo.

The CPU or processors speed has very little effect on performance in games. You should better invest in a graphics card for better visuals in games. If you want a processor, then i insist on going for core 2 duo e6420 or e6600. Pentium D processors have heating problems and many programs have not been created for quad core. AMD processors have been thrashed by core 2 duo's performance so don't get attracted by their cheap prices. Opt for nvidia 8 series graphics cards for greater graphics.
