I'm building a customer PC. I know that I will need to get more then the standard 400 watts that come with the PC Tower. But how exactly do I find that out and figure exactly what I need???

I know I could just post my specs on here and someone will answer is for me... but I want to know for future computers, how do I know?

I have tried looking on video card and CPU specs to see if it lists some kind of energy requirements and I saw none.

Any help on this topic, I would really appreciate it.

Hey all, I haven't purchased a new PC in 4 years and I'm finally going to suck it up and do it. My friend is giving me his geforce 7900GT because I can't afford a new one for at about 6 months but this is the rest of the thing (I have a large case and fans already). Let me know if this all looks good.

I know it's not the top of the line but I'm a college student on a budget and these parts all seem to be pretty good for the purposes of WoW, CS 1.6, Bioshock, Team Fortress 2, and hopefully Crysis (eventually I'll get a DX10 vid card).

Ok so I have Vista..and my computer isn't very old, 3-4 months tops. Anyways, about a week ago there was a knocking-like noise in my CPU..so I restarted and haven't heard the noise since. Lately though my mouse would just freeze up then unfreeze. Yesterday it would just freeze up and it would kind of unfreeze..but I would try and click on something, and would need to click on it 6-7-8 times before it would respond. I have a wireless mouse..so I was thinking maybe my mouse/keyboard was the problem so I bought a brand new mouse and keyboard today, but alas I'm still having the same problems. Then I tried to restore my computer back to a months time (because my computer worked great a month ago) but I'm still having these problems. :( Does anybody know what I can do? Thanks

the installation aborted..

Details:
* OS - Windows XP Pro's
* System Manufacturer - VIA Technologies.
* System Model - P4M266- 8233
* BIOS - Phoenix -Award BIOS V 6.00 PG
* Intel Pentium 4 2.00 Ghz, 2.0 Ghz.
*256mb RAM

I found the driver at http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=2&OSID=1&CatID=1160

The driver name is "ProSavageDDR Graphics Drivers"

But there's a note " may not be fully compatible with your video board or BIOS".

Is is something to do with my RAM or free diskspace availability..
What do i do now?

This card: PNY VCQFX1500-PCIE-PB-V Quadro FX1500 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card ... is selling for $523

This card: EVGA 768-P2-N831-AR GeForce 8800GTX 768MB 384-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card .... is selling for $530

Why is the PNY card selling for so much money and is 256 memory ... and the eVGA has 3 times as much MB and its basically the same price... I don't get it????

Can someone explain this to me... I'm good with computer specs but I don't get it.

While I am working on line, sometimes my computer would suddenly shut down on its own. If this happens, I would have to restart it & redo things over again (what I was working on...writing e-mails, etc).

Why is my computer doing it?

I didn't have this until about 3- 5 months ago.

I am running a AMD Athlon 64+, or 6400+ not sure, and 4-6 yr old Geforce 5200. Now my CPU doesnt go above 60C, and NAV can't find any virus that would sabotage me. The reason why i know it is not a interface/platform problem is because when i restart my computer after it just shuts down, it starts very slowly and doesnt give me a system error message when it starts up. The shutdown gives no warning and sounds like i just suffered a power outtage where all the noise will just abruptly fade off, as compared to a more abrupt shutdown where if u have your speakers on itll make a big "poomp" noise. Please help

The power went out the other day, not a storm or anything, not sure why, but now my emachine won't turn on. It was in sleep mode when the power went out. My computer, monitor, printer and speakers are all plugged into the same surge protector and all of them turn on besides the computer tower. I opened it to look inside and the green light on the motherboard is on other than that I don't know what else to check.... does anyone have any ideas what happened?
thanks.

i'm considering wether i should buy a used mac..the owner emailed me back, after i asked what was wrong with it (since it was so cheap) ..is what hes saying even right and is it the real scenerio? does this even sound right to you or what?

p.s i can fix pc's and never bothered with a mac but is this just a boot disc fix? the added cmos replacement makes me wonder..

"Yes the Mac is still available. It had sat unused for a pretty long time, so we bought a new CMOS battery for it and turned it on. The intro "music" plays, but then it just shuts itself off. We were told to buy or have another Mac user create some sort of a boot/repair disc, but we haven't been able to get anyone to look at it for us and have just lost interest in it."

I have always had windows microsoft, but recently my computer has been acting slow, and its really virus-prone. i have decided to get a new home computer (not laptop; i already have one). i am a freshman in college with a few roommates. i left my computer in our living room/dining room (lol typical college life) for my friends to use. however, within one year of owning my brand new store bought computer, my computer has become full of memory, user accounts, pictures, and well....viruses. so i am giving it to my kid brother. now....what should i buy? should i follow the ipod craze and buy an Apple or stick with what i know and love?? also, i HATE vista. and im not sure if they still make XP. thanks, Katie

I have an old computer which I don't really use anymore, it has 2 harddrives; one with all the main windows information on it (A) and one with a bunch of documents and a few games installed on it (B).

What I would like to do is format harddrive B while keeping all the data on A intact. I want to unplug A and leave it so I can go back to windows later if I want. I would like to format B and then use that as my main harddrive so that I could then install Ubuntu Linux on that and then use Ubuntu as my main OS.

The computer is currently running windows xp professional but I do not have any install disks because the computer used to be someone elses and they gave it to me. so I don't have the right CD's for it.

I hope I have explained what I wish to do clearly enough; if you need me to clarify then feel free to ask, I shall provide information the best I can.

Thank you
