At stock speed, Core2 Duo E6850 is unbeatable. BUT when overclocked, Q6600 quadcore is KING!

ALL processors that are described as "Retail PIB (processor in a box) come with a heatsink w/ cooling fan. OEM or tray type processor is just the processor chip, nothing else.

the difference between the duo and quad is the ability to do more multi tasking. The real question is what will you be using the computer for?

Spread sheets and graphics at the same time? Quad.

Gaming duo with a faster MHz.

If you have a heavy work load w/ multi programs at the same time the Quad hands down.

As far as a heat sink, it takes heat away from an object...the processor in this case and helps keep it cool.

I have a water cooled computer that I use for gaming. I have a quad core and a fast video card with lots of ram.

in terms of performances you can barely notice the difference between the 2, but if you into multi-tasking, and video editing, core 2 quad core is what you need.. Another thing is that it is future proof, when new apps are already available utilizing the quad core you wont be left behind.. The downside of it is that you have to pay an extra money, but if money is not a problem go for it.. I would suggest that you go for Q6600 a.k.a core 2 quad core 2.4 GHZ.. Its the best buy, paired it with Gigabyte MoBo..

The quad is more powerful but for normal use the duo will be more than enough. Unless you're planning some very intense usage, high-end video editting and the like, I would suggest you take the duo, it' cheaper and plenty fast enough.
