Almost $1500 including 20'LCD and Speakers. Just tweak it to fit your exact specs.

Select in this order and compatabilty with each as you go.
1) CPU, intel or amd, amd will require a top mounted fan for extra heat these chips produce.
2) Motherboard suitable for the choosen CPU. For heavy gaming graphics get a board that does not include a vga built in graphics card or sound card. You will choose those separtely for high quality graphics and great sound!
3) ATI graphics cards in my OP are the best and most compatible with most games out there.
4) Soundblaster sound board which is probably PCI slot depending on your motherboard. External speakers as well.
5) Seagate 200gb hard drive
6) 1-2gb ram for heavy gaming, have to find out what type your motherboard requires for correct pin and slot
7) Decent monitor like a viewsonic LCD 17" or better
8) 300wt power supply and extra internal cooling fans you can put in your casing which you also need
9) DVD writeable drive, pioneer, teac, many out there!
Hope this gets you going

Building a computer from parts isn't that difficult. Doing the research on what parts to get takes time. Don't rely on what people tell you - I prefer AMD, others prefer Intel. Do the research.

www.motherboards.org, other websites have the information you need.

Have fun, it is fun to build your own machine - especially when things don't boot on the first power up!

To build a gaming computer, I recommend either a Pentium 4 2.0ghz or higher, or an Athlon XP. DDR2 is a good and cheap type of memory, I think this site is helpful for you. It leads you to build a pc.

For cpu, I like this AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3.0GHz, it works great. A recent deal for it is $165.

Hope this helps.

I would get this motherboard and processor combo and add another gig of ram to get 2 gigs and at least a 500 watt power supply
