FreeDos seems to be an open-source version of MSDOS. I can understand if people wanted a computer with DOS, but these things are coming with dual-core processors and gigabytes of RAM. Why would your need that kind of power for something that can only run DOS programs?

Let's say that you have a computer with a 2.2 ghz. core 2 duo processor. Does that mean that both cores are running at 2.2 ghz., giving you a total speed of 4.4 ghz., or that each core is running at 1.1 ghz? I really need your help, thanks.

My husband says it cheaper to let the computer
run all the time than to shut it down and reboot
it when you need it. He says it takes more electricity to boot it up than it does if you just
leave it running. Is that true?

I have a Gateway 3200S desktop computer. I have been running Windows XP Home Edition since I got this computer on December 17th 2004. It wasn't always that loud. I barely have any used space, and it has a 256 MB RAM, a 75 GB Hard Drive, and a Pentium 4 processor.

Sometimes when I shut down my computer it will automatically restart. I have done a virus check, used my window washer, defraged my system. I have no idea what's wrong.

Ok, my problem is with a new computer i just got. I think it is a hardware issue and looking for help to pinpoint the problem. The computer boots ok, but at random times it will lock everything up and then make diagonal lines on the monitor. I have to do a hard restart and it will load up again. But this is happening more and more frequently. Please help. I am wondering if it might be a motherboard short or something. The video card is an on board video card if that helps.

i have an XFX 650i ultra mobo that comes with nvidia ntune software that can fine tune all aspects of the hardware to run faster yet stable. im actually running now in the background and it already shows a 17% increase in the pci-e bus speed.

is this really a safer way than playing with the bios settings? i have an expensive (MASSIVE) cpu heatsink so it can be kept cool. it runs about 45c under load, but the thermal paste has not completely spread yet (this is a brand new system).

I am re-asking this question due to some of the answers I have already received. Let me say first off that I do regular maintenance on this piece of crap......delete cookies, temp files, run RegCure to keep my registry clean, run Norton (another piece of junk), etc, so please, don't blame the "user". Perhaps I have picked a lemon in the garden of computers. Any takes on Dell? For those of you who already answered, thanks. A couple of you agree with me, others "blamed" me, which is why I am reposting this question. I was just curious if anyone else shared my opinion of the Compaq P.

I have an e-machine and have had zero problems till a couple of days ago. I turn on my computer and I hear the fan turn on, my usb ports are receiving power, and my cable modem shows it connects with the computer. What doesn't happen is the computer won't turn all the way on or something. The green light that normally comes on in the front now doesn't. I also do not see anything on the monitor. It is like it starts to turn on but then stops. What should I do??? This is very frustrating!
