well, actually, Compact, Dell, Acer they are all just PC builders.
The hardwares inside of them are not created by them
CPU: intel or AMD
RAM: crossair, Kingston, Apacer....
motherboard: nVidia, SiS, intel....
graphic card: nVidia, ATi..
Hard Disk: Maxtor, Seagate, Western Digital
My point here is that the components you're running is a general hardware anyone else can have.
So usually if you're facing problems with your PC, look at the hardware you're running, your system specification, the application that is run in that PC.
If I build my own PC with exactly the same PC specification as your Compaq Presario (except of course the casing, but this has nothing to do with it), I may very well face the same problem.
What I'm trying to say is that to diagnosis a PC, don't look at the brand, look at the hardware and software itself. Should you face any more problems and wish to ask for help in the future or so....

Hehe, big perm!
Well, I got a Compaq because I wanted something right here, right now, and this machine was already assembled. Had I given the matter more time, I would have built my own. I don't really have any problems with my Compaq, (knock on wood) but, that doesn't mean they aren't on the horizon. I am pretty satisfied with my computer at the moment as far as what it is and what it isn't capable of. Sometime in the future I hope to step up to a quad core or so... This isn't even a dual core, so I don't know. But I've expanded the memory and can still upgrade my chip if I so desire. I think it's all in what you're using your machine for. I think that really determines how satisfied you will be with its performance. Maybe next time you make your purchases you will have more of an idea as to what you're looking for performance wise.
The only complaint I have about Compaq is that the motherboard's chipset is really finicky and awkward. I wish things were more universal on there...
Good luck,

There are two sides to this story.
I had a Compaq Presario that worked very well. My best friend got one the same day from the same store and his was a POS. I believe they are having problems with hardware not perfectly "talking" to each other. I also had a Compaq laptop that was a POS. Needless to say, I'm glad to be a Mac man now.
The other side of this is some registry cleaning programs can actually hurt the system. The coding schemes can sometimes delete items the operating system needs. Norton is a POS itself, you might want to try Avast. It's free and updates everyday.
Dell computers are as good as pretty much any other computer out there. Their claim to fame is there are so many of them out there and their warranty service is superb. Needless to say if you get one and it breaks, the warranty will back it up if you select the right option.

Any computers from so called "brand" companies are not really their own computers, such as Dell, Compaq, and HP.
All they do is install the 3rd-grade parts (usually HDD, RAM, and Optical Drive) and some cheap mainstream products (very cheap products from Intel, AMD, ATI, or NVIDIA), and put their logo on the computer. Since most of these companies forcefully try to design these "cheap" computers in order to reduce the cost and still trying to include some mainstream products, (such as Windows Vista Basic on 512MB RAM) often they are already half broken when you buy their PCs.
Not every PCs from these companies are craps, as some of expensive one works alright but they are way too expensive compare to the custom built ones that have same or better specifications.
Next time when you try to buy a new computer, look for the companies with the best customer services, since its the only 'product' that they can provide.

i have a presario it's a year old and the only thing have left stock is the MB and that's about to change today when my new MB comes in, i have upgraded the RAM to 2GB, put in a duo core, and a ATI 1900 video card and a 1000w PSU, the only reason i want the new MB is cause i want DDR2 ram not the crapy DDR ram and i want the AM@ socket so i can run quad core and also so i can overclock my computer. but all in all the ability to to a clean install of the OS from the pre formated HD with partition and not half to go looking for my CD or code. i love that.

in basic terms a sort of masturbation. Now, if he's fellating himself and wishing/imagining it grow to be somebody else's penis, that is an entire distinctive tale- yet having pronounced that, that applies to masturbating consisting of your hand as properly.
