That Depends, This is what you need to do.

Go to Crucial.com and have the memory Finder find your type of memory. now you know what type of memory your computer needs. You might have SDRAM, DDRAM, DDR2 or DDR3. You can not put memory in your computer that is not supported. Like if Crucial shows your computer supports DDR2 Ram you can not put in anything else. Crucial.com also lets you know how much Ram is currently installed in your system and how much Ram you can upgrade to. This is also important, YOU CANT install more RAM that your system can handle. Like if your computer can handle 2 gigs dont go above that. i would recommend instaling the max your computer can handle. scince updating ram over time can become more costly that just doing it all at once.

It is better to buy DDR2 itself as in future it would be dfficult to buy SD or DDR1 rams.

Decide how much RAM you need FIRST. Then, go to:

http://www.crucial.com/

Use their "Memory Advisor Tool" to identify your PC's RAM by make and model OR by Scanning your PC (Cool!).

Then, buy new RAM from them (or Kensington, Ultra, etc.) or look for COMPATIBLE second-hand RAM on Kijiji.ca, Craig's List or eBay, to name a few.
