Ok, my problem is with a new computer i just got. I think it is a hardware issue and looking for help to pinpoint the problem. The computer boots ok, but at random times it will lock everything up and then make diagonal lines on the monitor. I have to do a hard restart and it will load up again. But this is happening more and more frequently. Please help. I am wondering if it might be a motherboard short or something. The video card is an on board video card if that helps.

As it's a brand new PC, simply contact manufacturer /supplier, complain and get them to repair it for you

Either the on-board video card of the RAM (onboard video uses system RAM).

If the video, get a card and disable the onboard in the BIOS setup. There are RAM testers available for free from www.download.com

My opinion is its a video card/video card driver , i had the same problem with some of the games i played, i updated the drivers and it removed some of the lines. i would highly recommend getting a video card that fits your driver slot, even if its a cheap card. On video cards suck a lot.
