I have an e-machine and have had zero problems till a couple of days ago. I turn on my computer and I hear the fan turn on, my usb ports are receiving power, and my cable modem shows it connects with the computer. What doesn't happen is the computer won't turn all the way on or something. The green light that normally comes on in the front now doesn't. I also do not see anything on the monitor. It is like it starts to turn on but then stops. What should I do??? This is very frustrating!

I had this SAME problem, not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES! Are you ready for this? Each time the motherboard was fried, well, more specifically the video output/video card section of the motherboard was cooked! I think that eMachines just uses crap motherboards. Fortunately for me I had only had mine for 11 months when my motherboard went out the first time so it was fixed for free under warranty. The second time it went out the warranty had passed they agreed to extend the warranty since it had only been 1 1/2 months since I got it back from being fixed before. The third time I just said piss on it. I had had enough of eMachines and I forced myself to get a new computer.

Oh, and don't even try to go out a buy a separate third party video card. They won't work properly. I tried that.

So, my suggestion is if your eMachine is new enough and still under warranty try having it fixed. You may have better luck than I did. If it isn't under warranty, well, count it as a lesson learned and go buy a new computer...just avoid eMachines at all costs!

Good luck and I hope my answer helps you out!

My best guess, without seeing the machine, is that the system is not booting up. Based on the front green light, which I imagine is the power light, I would think the motherboard has a problem. Could be power supply, even if your USB ports are on. The modem probably has it's own separate power supply so that's why it is on.

You probably need to take it to someone and have it checked out.

Your problem is.. you have an e-machine. You will have to replace the power supply and the motherboard at the same time. I've worked on many of these as a computer technician. If you replace just the power supply, it will kill your motherboard if you replace just the motherboard, it will kill your power supply. Take my advice, buy a different computer. A nice dual core system is like between 2 and 300 dollars on PCUSA, probably about what it would take to replace your parts.

Insert your Windows CD and see if that boots. (CD must be the first boot device in BIOS)

If yes, your hard drive is corrupted or dead.

If no, your PC needs to be taken in for service.
