i recently bought a hp pavillion a6230n desktop pc....i downgrade from vista to windows xp.....now theres no sound...i dont have a volume in the left corner anymore...and it say i dont have a active mixer device...HELP........

ive got an 8800 gts 640 mb, o/c to 570/970, an e6600 o/c to 2.79 ghz, and a p52-32e sli plus motherboard, w/ 2gb of corsair xms2 ram 800 mhz (pc2 6400) with 4-4-4-12 timings.
and i have a 700 watt gamexstream power supply. mand a creative sound blaster audigy sound card. my hard drive RPM's are 7200, normal.

i just recently built this and it sems to not be performing as well as it should be, accordoing to 3dmark (demo version, stock options set) im only scoring 8764 marks. and it says my system is in the low range of similar systems, which sounds unusual fot this kind of a setup. i ahve all updated drivers also. anyone have any suggestions for getting my system up to parr? or does it seem to be running fine for this setup? im know my gaming experience has all been fine, but, i want to get my moneys worth for my computer as i paiud $1200 for it (built it myself).

it has those lil nub thingys on the side....does that mean i can lay it on the side without messing up the disk drive or anything?

My computer crashed so I did a fresh install of windows. I had a bunch of pics on my hard drive that I did not back up. (stupid I know) Does anyone know of a way that I can recover those? Thank you.

I have a Lenovo PC running Windows Vista; it came with a 250GB hard drive. What I want to do is switch the HDD for a smaller one, say 40GB, just big enough to keep the system files and programs, then take the 250GB HDD and put it in an external box to be used exclusively for storing data....I will keep everything that's already in it, just in case.
My ?? is: Do I just copy everything (all the system files and programe) to the new HDD and then assign it as primary, or are ther additional steps that I should take.

I'm just wondering if it is necessary to reformat a hard drive when reinstalling windows. Any specific benefits? I don't want to have to detach my hard drive and hook it up to another PC. Is this needed to reformat?

I have just switched on my work PC this evening and there doesn't appear to be any output from the tower to the monitor, keyboard or mouse. The monitor is working fine as I have checked it on my laptop, but the PC will not work. It was fine yesterday, but if it is not fine when i hand it in on Monday I'm in deep s***. Please help!

I have an HP laptop computer, I keep getting an error message telling me I have only 5% free space. The problem is this, I can't find what is taking up all the space. It is a 60GB, I have 8 GB in music and 3GB in movies and 1GB in photos. I was told to erase all of these but that is not what is taking up all the space. I have cleared all old programs that have not been used this year. I have deleted all old documents. And when I try to run the Defragmenter, I get a message that says I need at least 15 % free to run it, so it tells me to delete stuff off the hard drive and try again. I really need help to determine what I need to delete to give me more space. I had like 80% free just a few months ago, I have not downloaded anything but a few songs, any help would be great.

I am trying to build a computer. All the parts are new. I have an ABIT AG8 motherboard, which does not have an integrated graphics card. For that reason I also have a separate graphics card. I know i still have to set the BIOS up but I can never get a picture on the screen.

I have already taken everything apart and put it back together. I checked for any compatability issues and there were none. All power cords are attached. But I still do not get any picture on the monitor. Please help.

I recently installed Tiger on my mac G4 800Mhz (768 MB RAM) and started using the system for home use. For some reason the performance is terrible. I am not sure if it has to do with some of the software that I have removed (ProTools) and recently installed (OpenOffice), but it takes a good 5-10 seconds to open apps and do anything. Is there a utility I can run to see if the CPU and RAM is being maxed out or is it an issue with Tiger?

I'm working on a Gateway computer (probably an Essential 700C since it has a 700 MHz Celeron processor). When I turn it on, both the green and amber lights in the power button come on and stay on. There are no audible beeps. The floppy drive's light doesn't come on, but the CD drive light comes on for a few seconds. The monitor doesn't seem to be receiving anything, and none of the keyboard lights come on and neither does the optical mouse.

Swapping out the hard drive seemed to make no difference. I put in a new power supply but the symptoms are the same. The old supply was very dusty and I wonder if the processor overheated.

Possibly helpful details are that the keyboard and mouse both have USB interfaces (there are no PS/2 connections available), the graphics are integrated into the motherboard, it had 512 megs of RAM, and it was running Windows Me.

Even the most basic suggestions or comments are welcome.

My roommate sold me a computer and said to reformat the drive, but when I enter setup, it only offers safe mode with command prompt. the windows on this computer is locked with a password. how do i boot up and get to a prompt to reformat? its an HP with Windows XP.

Anybody Know where I can Buy a PC Chips TidalWave T12 Motherboard. I have searched everywhere. Cannot find it anywhere. And if there is a better socket 478 motherboard that is cheap under $100 that can hold more than 2 gb memory for fast gaming. you know what i mean. Good motherboard.

i recieved an old compaq deskpro from someone and when i turn it on it loads up linux, then asks for "vector login" i dont know what the vector login is. i have a windows xp media edition cd . can i remove linux and install windows ? i dont know how to boot from disk, is there a button or combination of buttons that i can press to get it to boot from disk. basicaly i just want to remove linux and install xp
